Lost a kidney to renal cell carcinoma in 2000. During followup it was discovered that I had nodules in each lung. Did see a specialist and over some visits it was determined that since there was no change it was best to do nothing. 2006 and the urologist is now expressing grave concern over the stable, no change in size, nodules. Today I see a (?)thoracic surgeon who wants to treat both lungs. Surgery for the right lump and burn out the left due to a gastro-pleural fistula filling up the chest cavity, etc. This surgeon mentioned renal cell cancer in the lungs! This is the first time the "C" word was mentioned and applied to the lungs. Is there a scan other than CT to show the lung tissue? My PCP says that a PET scan will show cancer cells but the surgeon didn't respond when I brought the PET up. I am upset right now because I just got back from my visit and could use some input. I have a new PCP and we are still getting to know each other so I need some ammunition to present if things don't seem to make sense to me. Thanks for any help. Andy
