1. Are you sure you can purchase firearms out of state?
2. No I would not be comfortabe carrying that much money to the gunshows around here. The Mexicans and gang bangers have discovered the gunshows. The shows do not allow CCW which is why I don't feel comfortable or I could just carry any way. |

When I go to shows, I generally take as much cash as I can possibly scrape together, I'm really not worried about getting mugged at a show, and as far as getting from parking to the door, I am ALWAYS carrying, and always aware of my surroundings. (Yes I do carry in the show, what they don't know can probably save my life.)

Carrying large sums of cash is really no different than carrying anything else. In reality it's just paper. I take more than a few bucks to gun shows on accasion. Cash is nice to deal with. I triy to carry some in my wallet and some in my pocket on a money clip. I've never been held up or I might feel different. I do pay a little closer attention to my surroundings when I have extra cash.

Yes, if you're planning to buy something. $1,000 is not that much of a big deal. It is only 10 bills. But I would take smaller bills such as 5s, 10s, & 20s, and maybe a 50 or two for dickering down the vendors. Nothing speaks as loud as cash. But remember if you get scammed, you're screwed, with a credit card at least you have a the CC company as go-between in case of a dispute.

I have a friend that collects Nazi daggers and I have seen him lay down $11,000 in cash
 for a dagger at the Max show in Pittsburgh. I just watched in shock. I've never even come close holding that much cash. WBK |

No worrys at all. I never carry cash in my wallet, its always front pocket or inside coat pocket with a zipper.

I was at my local bank last week to deposit my paycheck. The guy in front of me was depositing a large amount of cash, when the teller totaled it he wanted to add some to it so that it came out to an even $300 so he reached into his right front trouser pocket and pulled out a roll of bills like I have never seen. As the teller was posting this to his account she says to him did you know that your savings account was $10 overdrawn, so he reaches into his left front trouser pocket and pulled out another huge roll of bills. This guy was packing some serious cash, of course I do not know the amount but my guess would be several thousand at a minimum.
It is a rare day that I carry more than $100, and the local gun show was the last time I did. |

its nice to have. my dad has one of those fake 7 up cans. that he leaves in his truck. bottom screws out and you can store cash or anything really in them. When you go into the gun show don't you bring some type of fire arm along? You always have it checked at the door. they clear it call it good and you are good to go? having one loaded mag in the back pocket saves alot of drama?
I alway bring cash along x2 if its outa my local area and I don't know the banks well. |

I used to do that, but now I check the show before I send out for mail order/Online places. I was pissed when I ordered 960 SA .308 from AIM and went to a show the next day and it was cheaper with no shipping and I would'nt have to wait. |

Nothing beats "green money" when you are trying to close a deal at the gun show.
Many times, a guy has said he was firm at $325 and I pulled out 3 $100 bills and said, "How about $300 cash", and made the deal.

They don't know whether you have $200 or $2000. I don't think it makes you more likely to be robbed.
If somebody DOES rob you, you lose some money. Sometimes, life sucks. Incidentally, $2000 is less than you'd pay a lawyer to handle a no bill hearing. |

Always carry cash, usually betweeen $300 and $800. I prefer cash for the gunshows as well, and I am pretty sure no LEOs (or anybody else) are going to remove it from me unlawfully. When you have over $1000/month disposeable income it's not hard to have a few hundred bucks in your pocket.

I do.
The ATM at the Tanner gun show only lets you pull out $100 at a time and charges you $3 a transaction. To buy a very nice Garand cost me $550 in cash and $25 in fees. Plus it took forever to run all the transactions. Now I just take out a few hundred from my own credit union so that I have to pay no fees. |

I used to work my dad's tables in the early eighties. This older gentlemen comes to the tables and brags to my father that he has cashed in his retirement fund and is going to treat himself to some new toys. He claims to have all of about a hundred thousand dollars cash on him. The gunshow was located at the Detroit Light Guard Armory on 8 Mile Road in Detroit.
The next day, the rumor going around the show was that some old dude got robbed of a hundred grand outside of the building. |

Hell, I used to take a lot more than that to gun shows. One of my favorite gunshow memories was going to an ATM at the site and withdrawing as much as I could on my ATM card -- while a guy was standing behind me holding a 12ga shotgun. Where else can you feel perfectly safe taking hundreds of dollars out of your account while a heavily-armed stranger is right behind you?  You should be more worried about off-site issues, such as whether the surrounding area is a bad neighborhood. The "Indy 1500" show in Indianapolis . . . well, I'll never move to Indy, that's fer shure.

Of course if you've got substantial amount of money, you surely don't want to broadcaste it to the world. Here is what I would do, have 2 stashes; money a few bills in your wallet, and the balance in a money belt. And to be descrete, you go into rest room stall to take money from the belt to the wallet. You want to keep an extremely low profile carrying large sums of cash. As a matter of fact, any time you travel in foriegn country these precautions should be observed to prevent strong arm robbery. ETA: Strong arm robbery would be highly unlikely given the higher security, but then you don't want to temp anyone either, plus you may not always be on the gunshow premises. |

I usually take between 1 and 2K. You can CCW here BUT when you go inside, it has to be cleared and mag out. Zip strip in the chamber. If I go out to the truck with "something" I lock and load as soon as I go out and clear when I come back in.
I also know many of the vendors who will keep what I buy until I'm ready to go for the day. Pull up to the door, load and go. BTW, they use prisoner details as fairground labor at the lansing/Mason show, how stupid can a County be? |

I carry the largest amount that I can afford whenever I go to a gun show, even if I am not planning on getting anything. You never know when you will find the perfect gun from a private seller where credit cards are not even an option.
I have no worries about carrying large amounts of cash to the show because the shows are always very crowded (alot of traffic going back and forth in the parking lot so that I am never walking alone), a number of police officers, and a friend that I usually go with is a physically imposing individual. This is true even in the one gun show that I go to that is not in the best area of town and tends to have some questionable characters around. I do always make sure that I pay attention to everything going on around me and make sure that I keep my money in a front pocket or somewhere else that someone could not easily take it from me. |

I went to the Big E gun show this past weekend with alittle over $2000.00 to buy some ammo.. Too bad the ammo guys are cheese dicks and I didnt want to give them any of my money so it came home with me.. Now I still need to get some more ammo!!!

Checks are traceable. I always take a lot, and split it up- couple hundred in my wallet, couple hundred in each front pocket, maybe some in a pocket in my backpack. Always keep track of how much you keep where- more than once I've been dealing on something, and sometimes it works to walk away, transfer a few bucks from one pocket to my right front, then go back and offer what I have in that pocket. Of course, what you offer isnt as much as he's asking- try to get a decent price, but dont screw yourself out of the sale. |

i keep 1k at hand nearly all the time..in different places..unlike alot of folks I can come up with a grand on a sunday afternoon...some at home, some in the car, some in my office., plenty of places to hide money in the world..even 200 in a public place. give me an hour and I will have the money..
if you have ever been in a situation where you NEED CASH, NOW! you will understand why.. I never had an issue carrying 2 or 3k into a gunshow..if I was intent on doing some serious shopping. theres enough guys been waiting to kill a bad guy for YEARS I wouldnt want to dampen their possibilities...lol. One time and only once was I really nervous about carrying a large amount..I was traveling post Katrina after insureing my parents were hail and hearty and couldnt find a hotel room and too tired to drive anymore,nodding off etc, made it to Shreveport at 2am and knew I couldnt make Dallas that night.... Could NOT find a hotel room anywhere for nearly an hour so, I hit Harrahs...free coffee, some cheap food, wait till sunrise and finish the leg..and I hit a royal flush on a $5 machine ...Lights, Bells, whistles, half a dozen employees and God knows how many customers,,patting me on the back, etc,,,the whole damn casino Knew the big red headed man just hit the progressive!!!!!!payout was 10k..after taxes,,...felt like every low life in the city knew I had the money as I was walking outside,,at 7am....of course, no carrying in the casino and couldnt get a security guard to walk me out, never locked and loaded that fast as a civilian ever. |
