I never cared for running boards at all until I got my Silverado. It's a 2wd, and I bought it used with the rb already installed. Don't get the pipe-type, like in your link. Get the actual running boards; they help keep the mud and snow off the side of your truck. They're also handy for knocking the mud and snow off your boots before you climb in. Unless you intend to do any off-roading, it shouldn't affect your ground clearance to a great degree.
