[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Computer problem...The Mr. can't log in to ARF on his computer for some reason...

I can log him in on mine, so it's not on the site side, it's clearly his computer. Cleared the cache, made sure cookies were enabled, done everything we can think of doing and he still can't log in. IE, and he won't d/l Firefox.

Any ideas?

What error message is he getting back from the site when he trys to log in?

Username/password problem?

Is the caps lock off?

Are all the keys on his keyboard functioning correctly? (I sometimes have to attempt logging in more than once because a couple of my keyboard keys are sticking).

He doesn't get any kind of error message at all, actually. It just refreshes the screen and comes up with blank user name/pw fields.

Caps lock not on, keyboard's fine.

I had that too once. The screen would just blink. I'll see if I can find out (remember) what the problem was.

I was running a mac and osx 10.2.8 at the time...

ETA my e-mail to the site said I'd just upgraded to 10.4. I seem to remember they changed my password, then I logged on and changed it back, as if there was a corrupted piece of the puzzle. Try to get the password changed and see it that works.

I know you wrote that cookies are enabled, but it seems like cookies are being blocked. This is a good reason to make him try Firefox.

Had similar problem. I am using Norton Internet Security and it locked me out of arfcom.

I had to create an exception for ar15.com

If you are using Norton or any internet security program, disable it a try to log on again. If it works than you know that is the problem.

For some reason, the cookie that is supposed to store his name and password isn't being created. Something is preventing that from happening.

In IE, go to Tools, Options, and on both the Security and the Privacy tabs, click the 'Default' button to restore those settings back to default settings. You may also need to Delete Cookies.

And check for any software firewall/spyware blockers, etc.

Disabled the Antivirus, no change. Set the Security and Privacy settings back to the default settings, still can't log in.

I'm completely at a loss.

ETA: No firewall or software blockers that I could find, either.

can he/she log on to secure websites. can you check yahoo, hotmail email?

open up ie click help and about IE what is the encrytion level 0 or 128bit

tell him/her is completly stupid not to download a different browser and try it. \

I do remember when this happened to me it was not browser related, as it did the same thing in all browsers, IE, Safari, Firefox and Camino.

I still say get a new password combo......to test..

Does he have 'System Restore' ??? If so, have him go back to a date that all was good and try that. Sys.Restore has saved my bacon many a time. Good luck....

if he wont use firefox use netscape works fine for me getting in and out of arfcom.

the newest version of netscape work great.

has tab browsing and what not and it will save you user name and password.

I would restore his system to an earlier date, but he had 'System Restore' disabled and it didn't log any restore points.

I had that exact same problem using I.E.And the only way i could log into the site..is buy using another browser.I tryed everything that has already been mentioned,my p/w re-seted and still no go.

add http://www.ar15.com to the trusted sites list in Internet Explorer:

Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites/Sites

Uncheck the "require server verification" box just below the sites list (you may have to do this first before IE will let you add the site to the list)

(also while you're there, check in the "restricted sites" list to make sure AR15.com isn't listed there by accident.)

Copy and paste the login cookies from your 'puter to floppy then copy to his cache????

(I don't know it will work, but I'd try it)

Have you tried switching the cables at the router? Check the modem next.

Does he have anything on his system like Norton Internet Security? If so, try turning it off.
