Anyone stay at the Gloden Nugget in Vegas?

It's between Golden Nugget and the Excalbur.

Good/Bad?  Edumacate a Vegas newbie.

Golden Nugget is fine , but it is Downtown, not on the Strip. Excaliber is nothing great but will put you closer to the action due to it's Strip location.

it doesnt really matter. it's all pretty much within walking distance anyway

Your not walking from the Nugget to Bellagio, Mandalay, Ceasers etc. But you can from Excaliber.

It is kinda like asking what gun shuld I buy? The answer is what do you intend to do with it?

So what your saying is stay at both?

A decent place thats near the strip and is also brand new is the Tuscany. Im not sure of their rates but they arnt bad unless something is going on that weekend. I was talking to a roulette dealer there. He was a gulf war 1 vet that had caught an ak round through the hand.

if this is your first time there than i suggest you stay on the strip at a nicer hotel. Get a feel of the strip and in the future stay in downtown. I suggest not staying Downtown if you are bringing children

Excalibur it is.

Wifey wants to go to Vegas, she's never been.  It's been a solid 12 year since I've been, and remember very little.

She'll want to see the strip and other "extragvant" hotels, so it looks like Excalibur is the way to go.

I would recoomend the Monte Carlo instead. I ahve stayed at most of them and for the same price the Montecarlo is better.

Excalibur is just too hokey in my opinion.

we stayed in the excalibur and we could walk to most of the other places. Was nice, the room wasn't anything special, the pool was ok. There is a lot of stuff to do in the hotel we didn't know about till we were gone, so check it out.

Like the other guy said the nugget is the place to gamble (downtown area in general) better odds.

As far as where to stay, well i havent stayed at the Excalibur. I have stayed at the MGM a few times in the last 4 years and it is very nice. Nice rooms and a beautifull pool area. Prices are comparable between the larger resorts. Mandalay bay is the most exspensive place to stay minus the Belargio.

If you stay in the newer part of Vegas ther is a monorail that will take you in between all the newer resorts.

You will have to take a taxi to get into the older part of town.

There is a great gun shop on Tropicana between the MGM and the airport. They rent autos to shoot in their range.

If you rent a car remember the valet parking is free, just tip the valet 2 or 3 dollars when dropping off and picking up. Every casino has valet parking, and that way you don't have to try to find a place to park.

Guy, have you ever been to Vegas or do you just feel the need to chime in on EVERY SINGLE DAMN THREAD THAT IS POSTED!!!! Golden Nugget is in downtown...it is not the strip.

Excalibur isnt within walking distance of the Bellagio, Mirage, Treasure Island, Wynn, Venetian, Ceasars..
It looks like its within walking distance but its gonna be a LONG walk, especially considering all the other foot traffic and walking around the illegals handing out porn leaflettes.  
I live here and ive stayed at Excalibur a few times. Its a decent place but its kind of run down, its not exaclty a mega resort anymore. There is a monorail that connects the Excalibur to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay.

If you want a central hotel and arent concerned about staying in a fancy hotel as you will mainly be going to other casinos, and will only use your room to sleep and shower and change and what not then look at the Imperial Palace. Its smack dab in the middle. Right next to Hilton, Ceasars, Treasure Island, Venetian, Mirage, Wynn, Fashion Show mall...its a few miles away from American Shooters....

If money isnt an object then Venetian is where I would stay...

Stayed at Belligio when I went.  Try to stay in the center of the strip, and walk to the other casinos.

As others have said, Golden Nugget is downtown, older, seemed kinda rundown in that area...

The Venetian is where we stayed last June. Got a hell of a deal is the only reason I wound up there. Never did tell the wife, let her think I was crazy spending money like a whale.

MGM Grand sucks.   Designed more to get you lost in there, than most other casinos.

If you call the Excalibur, see if they volunteer the fact that they do NOT have bathtubs.  Period.
And you will pay $10 or $15 to use the pool, 9-5, I believe.

I walked to & from  many of those other casinos along with using the monorail.  The monorail is $3 a ride, or you can buy a 72 hour pass.  It's OK but has just a handfull of stops.

Get your bank to pinpoint their nearest ATM for you and locate it yourself before you spend most of your pocket money.   I saw the fire truck pull up to the Excalibur and sniffed a problem getting out of the elevator, but the security guys knew nothing about it or weren't admitting it.  I found it - they'd put out to a small thing at a fast food restaurant, but the lack of good 411 was not reassuring.

I used to go to Vegas quite a bit. The Nugget is downtown and one of the few "classy" places left, off the strip. I it is part of what very little still remains of the old Vegas (from the Rat Pack days and such). It does not have volcanoes, pirate ships or the Wizard of Oz but it is classy-IMHO. I haven't been there since Steve Wynn sold it so I don't know if it has lost some of it's luster. It is a cheap Taxi fare from Downtown to the Strip. However, I would NOT reccomend you try and walk it. I did once and ended up on some bad streets with over $10,000 in my pocket and a sense of my own impending doom. Viva Las Vegas!
