I'll bet it'll do a little better than 24 mpg. I had a 1967 Camaro with a 1993 LT-1 engine and it used to get 27 mpg. The LS-1 is a better engine.

Please change the spelling of CAMARO. The way you have it spelled translates to loose bowels or shrimp or something.

I have an 01 SS w/ the 6 spd. On average I get about 15 to 16 but that's a mix of city and highway, and hard driving. I can say this, when I do my normal driving I get a little over 200 total miles per tank, but when I take an interstate road trip I get about 300 total miles. The 6th gear really helps drop down the RPMs while cruising on the highway.
 It is a blast to drive, too bad I have to put it away in the winter. |

That's not high at all for a 6 speed. My A4 SS will get about that on the highway. 02 Z06 gets around 30mpg on the highway. C5R 427 GMMG ZL-1 gets a solid 6-8mpg.

My Roadmaster with a LT1 and some tuneup issues gets 25mpg on the highway. I bet you get 30 on the higway with that Camaro, if you can keep the speed under 75.

I drive a mix of 60hwy/40city, and I average about 21mpg. On the highway I regularly hit 32mpg. On long trips, my fuel avg is 28mpg. Not bad considering a 20 gallon tank. Gives me a nice, 550 mile radius.
Fuel efficiency is determined by how you drive. Shift at 2500rpm and you'll be fine. First year I had the car I'd get 13mpg on average because I loved to hear the engine spin up to 3500 or so before shifting. I usually skipped 3rd gear as well. 1-2-4-6 on highway worked well for me. |

Yeah, I'd have to agree, though my friend's boss has an LS1 Trans Am T-56 and my friend got 20MPG when he took it to our prom a couple years ago. I think that's unusually low, as my 4600lb LT1 Cadillac gets 24MPG highway, and I don't have the luxury of sportscar aerodynamics and a .5:1 second overdrive! You should be able to get 24 at an absolute bare minimum on the highway. I wouldn't be the least bit supprised if you could get as high as the rated 28MPG somewhere between 60-70MPH. It's a small car with an outrageous final drive ratio and plenty of torque to keep it moving fast at low RPM. |

FWIW my C5 Corvette with an LS1 gets 18-20 mpg city, easily 20mpg if I behave, though 18mpg isn't tough to get even if I don't behave. I'll get 30-32 mpg on the highway...again...if I behave. The 6th gear is ultra high. It's easy to undertand why such high mpg is obtainable.
I did install a Blackwing air intake which improved things by 1-2mpg overall as well as a bit of a better throttle response. 16,000 miles so far. Great engine. Great car...and I generally hate American cars. |

I am trying to get my Neighbor, whos has a 1974 Z-28 with the husrt 4 speed to trade me for the new dodge neon he has been thinking about trading for the neon even. I pay cash for the neon the "Z" has all the doc's and is one owner. 60,000 miles never wrecked. has some store damage to R rear "Q" pnanel from a tornado. color matched wheels and all.

I have a LS1 in my 2000 Vette.
I usally get around 28 mpg on the highway with it in 6th gear and set on cruise. I don't drive it at all around town, so I can't comment on city mileage. |

My 02 LS1 SS with a cam change (390 RWHP) average 24 to 26 mpg and around 20 if I drive around town, and 18 if I have some fun tearing up the Angeles Crest Highway.
The LS1 with the 6 speed is very fuel efficient, but the problem is, at 6th gear, the car don't really response quickly, and the acceleration sucks. I get 150 miles if I have a spirited or fun drive, and more than 250 miles if I drive conservatively with a tank of super unleaded. My opinion is, if one own a race or muscle car, and you worry about mileage, maybe one should consider another alternative. |

That isn't why people buy them but yes, you can get good mileage with them. I have a 99 A4 Trans Am not sure what my exact mileage is but it is better than 25 on the highway, in town less than that probably 15-17 or so. Have you been over to LS1.com? |

Why? The newer LS1/LS6 cars are getting 25+mpg on the highway, and the cars are faster than ever. My 1996 Impala SS LT1 is getting around 23mpg highway, and 17-19mpg mixed driving. |

It's the year 2006, I want my muscle car to get good mileage. If I can get 24MPG, I'll be extremely happy. Like I said above, my truck gets 10MPG, this will be great. |

I have a 2000 Z-28 camaro, on the highway it will get close to 28MPG and about 20 - 22 MPG city. It has the six speed. Don't buy one with an automatic.   |

rcoers- I've always loved American muscle cars. When Matt Murphy came up with the idea for the ZL-1 I was one of the first in line. Since an old friend of mine, Lamar Walden, had been given the '69 427 Zl-1 camaro, (#51 the very first of the 19 GM gave to prominent racers) I asked him if he would be willing to build a C5R 427 and drive train for the car. He said yes.
Lack of adult supervision led to to .090 C5R race heads, solid roller and an F1 ProCharger. No A/C, elec. water pump, tubular front end parts, fuel cell, etc. There is a mental institution somewhere that has a room waiting for me I'm sure! I'll email you some pictures later today. Oh BTW, Matt is building me the last Dick Harrell car right now. |

Too cool. What kind of RWHP numbers are you getting out of that ZL1? I would love to take a ride in that bad boy. I saw one of the Dick Harrell cars at the Hot Rod Power Tour in Indy last year. Good stuff as well. |

My 01 Trans Am averaged about 16 mpg. On the highway it easily got 30 mpg. Plus it is such a torque monster that I rarely had to shift out of 6th on steep hills.
I also had the free ram air mod and the non-baffled intake with a K&N, which probably gets you another 1-2 mpg over the sticker. Oh, and I never used the skip shift to get these averages.

I just unplugged and taped it off....since the DTC does not trip the SES light, it was no big deal and the handhelds only saw it - no biggie at all... |

I had a 98 Z28 6speed with the LS1 engine, and use to get 18 to 22 in the city. In the highway it does awesome do to being able to do 80MPH at 2000RPMs.
The only problem I had was 5 sets of tires in 100K miles, a new clutch at 34k miles and 3 gear started giving me problems at 90k miles. |
