I lived in downtown Hartford during the year of 2003.  The locals told me this facility was the "Old Colt Armory".  Colt's current manufacturering facility is a few miles away.  These pics only show the front side,  there were several more buildings flanking this and in the back.  Preservationists are currently restoring some of the buildings for other purposes.  Does anyone know the history of this old facility?  Did they produce M16 rifles here back in the 60's?

My first thread, I hoped the images displayed properly

Im pretty happy with my SAA produced there last year.  USFC has done wonders for returning that building to its former greatness

US Firearms makes better SAA's than Colt.

US Firearms hasn't been in the old Colt building in a couple of years now. They moved a couple of miles away to a modern building big enough to house all their CNC machines.

From what I've read, Sam Colt was inspired by the architecture of the Byzantine churches he saw while in Russia, and wanted to copy the look on his factory.

If I remember correctly, the dome was restored sometime in the 90's. They are now turning the complex into apartments.

Would be a cool place to live if you had to live in the NE I guess!

I think I remember that Colt put the dome up in  order to honor the Czar of Russia who came for a visit....

That makes sense.  He did present that ornate dragoon percussion revolver to Czar Nicholas I in 1854.
