I have a friend that is going to N.J. to work and he wants to carry his M1 carbine along for target shooting on the weekends. One of his aquaintances in that state told him to leave it home because it was illegal to have one in New Jersey. Is this indeed correct?

Indeed, you cannot have an M1 Carbine in NJ...USGI, etc. Their AWB explicitly covered them. If he throws one in the trunk and drives through, fine...he's covered by the fed transporting law. If he stops anywherein the state...bad juju, if he gets caught with it for any reason.

Stupid, stupid, stupid...but that's NJ. So glad I moved out of the area...
