I have an 8100. Basically the same. They are kinda noisy, aren't they. I'm sure Dell can replace them, but I doubt you want to pay for it. |

If you want to try something to quiet it down -
If you can get access to the fan motor itself - look for a tiny tiny hole. Put some sewing machine oil in the hole, or in the motor - just a little bit. It should help with the noise and the RPMs of the fan. |

Before you spray some oil in it, either blow it out or wash it out. I found-out the hard way with an Apple laptop that adding oil to lint creates a bigger problem than the one you started with. I've also learned that lesson several times with industrial sewing machines.z

I can't see a hole anywhere.
I'll just buy one. Not as expensive as I thought. Thanks guys. I've gutted my laptop several times so it's not too bad. Takes about a hour to take apart and reassemble. Except for that 1 extra screw I have

It never fails. I got the fan today and the old one has been smooth running for the past 2 days.
It was checked for foreign matter and clean. Guess I'll replace it when it starts acting weird. |

I had the same thing happen in mine....took it out, pulled off a little sticker that covered the cam....a little Hoppes #9......problem solved.

Funny, my Inspiron 8200 is doing the same thing. It's intermittent though and only happens when the fans have been running for a long time.
Usually I find that if I tap on the case right below the right-hand hing point the fan will shaddup. |

They make even better fans - Panaflo Hydro-static bearing fans. The ONLY fans I will use in any computer I build. I would go without fans and spend 10x as much money on watercooling before I would get something other than a Panaflo. They just dont make them this small.
