I'm making a webpage for a work-related organization. I was wondering on what your opinions on the different news posting scripts were and which one I should use. I need to have the ability to let authorized people post stories, comment postings, news archives, etc. I'll probably be complimenting the site with either phpbb or yabb. What are your suggestions?

sounds as if you may want to look into content management systems. cms.

check out drupal, joomla, mambo. they all have unique strengths depending on what you need/want.

This needs to be a professional looking site though, I don't want it to look like a cheesy blog. I'd really like to use slashcode, but that looks far too complicated to set up, and also apparantly needs root access to install anyway. So what I'm looking for really is something like slashcode but that is easier to set up and operate.

I have used/ still use PostNuke. If you know what you're doing it only takes a few minutes to install. I've been happy with it,
