My friend just purchased a flatscreen monitor for his bedroom. He has Dish network.

In his bedroom the receiver is just a small cheap model receiver with Coax and RCA jacks on the back of it. We thought it would hook up to the monitor pretty easily. Well it did not work.
After calling Dish they told us that the RCA jacks are for VCR hook up only(input only?). They are trying to tell him the only thing he can do is purchase there complete HD package and HD receivers.

He does not want HD, nor to pay the extra cost for it. He just wants regular channels on his TV monitor.

Does anyone have any ideas?  Can you purchase a after market receiver cheap that will work with Dish? Or convert the Coax to RCA?

There has to be some way for him to get it to work. They will not sell him anything but HD. It sounds like they are trying to screw him over.
