I just ordered this a few hours ago...
AMD64 3.7gHz CPU Asus A8n-SLI Premium mobo Geforce 7800GT 256mb vid card TWO (1 gig sticks) of 3200 Corsair DDR ram Western Digital 250gig 7200rpm HD WinXP home edition Aspire Computer Case I already have a soundcard, CDRW and DVDRW im taking from my current system..... total cost of parts: $1,118.43 What do you think? Primary use of this will be for high end gaming, then multimedia applications. |
Sounds like a nice system. Allow me to translate: multimedia applications = PORN |
Man, I need to upgrade my system:
PIV 3.4GHz 250gigs 256MB ATI Radeon X800 pro crappy sound card DVD/CD burner It's old dammit, but it still runs |
Its ok...my current comp setup is: GeForce 4 Ti4600 512mb 3200 Corsair DDR Ram Asus mobo (like 400fsb I think) 2.4gHz AMD CPU It works well, even Call of Duty 2 runs well
I will be running Photoshop, maybe some video editing stuff...minor really |
I only have 2 words of advice to give: Dual Core
You'll be happier for it. |
not all programs can take advantage of it...plus its twice as expensive CPU-wise.......and dont necesarily get 2x the performance |
That is true. But since it has been introduced, more and more things are adding the ability to use the dual cores. Call of Duty 2 released a patch to optimize it for dual cores, and it makes a big difference. |
Eventually it just may become a bit more standard....right now its in its early stages of being used on a mass scale. Luckily with that comp setup, I wont worry about having a dual cpu capability...as it will run perfectly I imagine |

I would order Xp media center or Pro rather than XP home. Microsoft is ending support for XP home at the end of this year. Although they might extended security updates for another year or so it really is a dead product. Media center is the direct replacement for XP home.
? western digital is a great brand.... and I hate maxtor. |
I call BS on the 3.7 ghz part... maybe 3700+ but not 3.7 ghz. FX 57 in my comp is only 2.8ghz
woot higher speed porn!
you can now run 8 windows of media player simultaneously viewing porn nice rig. |
WD is still one of, if not the, best out there. |
whoops AMD Athlon 64 3700+ in Pentium processing power its equivlent to a 3.7gHz though this is new to me, last time I got a computer they didnt have these things haha (4 years ago) |
You could have done a lot better as far as RAM is concerned. That's fairly slow copared to the rest of it all.
You did good though. That's a hell of a gaming system! |
like what? higher speed ram or? 3200 does a fine job still, and the next step up is top dollar. I figure with 2gigs of it, it should make up for the speed difference. |
well, if you have to order from newegg, why not this: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231054&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch&ATT=20-231-054 |

OK - gotta go techno-geek on ya..... (you'll thank me later )
There is no such thing as an AMD CPU running at 3.7 GHz.... unless you overclock the $#@! out of it. An Athlon 64 3700+ model runs at 2.2 GHz - though it is still faster for most things than an Intel CPU running at 3.7 GHz. edit - Nice system, BTW. I have a similar system, though my video card is not as new and my CPU is a 2.2 GHz Opteron (940 pin vs. 939). I think you did quite well from a price/performance standpoint. By most criteria our systems are not "high end". High-end systems are using $1,000+ CPUs (Athlon FX60 dual-core) and the dual-video card setup. For under half the price, your system will do 85-90% of whata true high-end system will do. Good job! |
That is DDR 2 and wont work with an AMD CPU........ YET! Gskill HZ or ZX ram is the way to go. Uses Samsung UCCC chips which like speed.
Jeff |
That's what I did |
I'm expecting my parts from NewEgg right now. Farking UPS needs to get off their duff and deliver it!
Got similar items: AMD64 3700+ San Diego core CPU ASROCK 939 DualSATA2 MB (1 AGP 8x slot and 1 PCIe x16 slot) 1GB (2x512MB) Corsair PC3200 memory Thermaltake Soprano case with 430W power supply I already have a 60GB ATA133 'special edition' hard drive, a GeForce 6200 (AGP) and a CDRW/DVD and DVDRW drive here waiting. Later on, I plan to get two 80GB SATA2 hard drives, and run a stripe (RAID 0) on them, which should be pimpin fast, upgrade to a GeForce 7800GT (PCIe) and liquid cooling. I'm currently looking for a good benchmark program so I can compare the new machine to my old one. Anyone got suggestions? |
3dMark2005? |
Does 3dMark just do graphics, or will it show performance of the CPU, FPU, Cache, RAM, HDD, and all that jazz?
I haven't used their latest version, but I believe it will give you a general performance benchmark as well. |
Cool man. The GeForce 6200 is currently in my PC. I'm gonna have to shut down soon and swap in my old Ti 4200. I'll try to run the benchmark test before, then I'll be able to see overall performance difference using the same video board.
Looks good. What brand/output power supply did you get? |
it wont work together?? since when |
i got a case with power supply 420watt Aspire case |
time to update the vid card definitly. Mines only a Ti4600 (by Chaintech)....it WAS one of the best 128mb cards out there... anycase, this is the DDR Ram im getting, its not DDR2, so its PERFECTLY COMPAT with AMDs to my knowledge http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145488 |
Its a high end system for a consumer...maybe not for a business or whatever...but for an individuals PC its pretty high end...not sure of how many people you know get specs like this on their regular home computer. |
want to donate $330? then I will do that not until then though haha |
Good deal. If you go SLI you will probably want to up that to a 500-550W power supply. I have a 400W Antec power supply driving my (single) GeForce 7800GT based system. When I go SLI I will definitely have to upgrade the Antec. |
You would be surprised. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=441796 Just did something similar myself..although with SLI'd video cards. |
You and me with the comp specs like that...we arnt the basic, run of the mill computer consumer.....these are average specs by ANY means, these are "up" there. |
Yes he would be surprised if he saw what me and my friends run at home. I spend alot more money on my home systems than "work" systems. The last system I put together cost almost $4000, AMD X2 4800, SLI 7800 GTX (512M ram each), a terabyte of hard drives (2-500G maxtors), etc... That is a high-end system, but it's more than just a gaming rig, I also do video encoding/conversions and it's also a multimedia server for my home network and home theater as well, but I spend way too much momey on computers. |
That is a bitchin system. I wanted the GTX but can't afford it right now. |
I cant wait to be able to run all my games, the way they were designed my system isnt bad right now, but...sometimes the framerates could be better |
Now you just need a new monitor. This bad mother will be MINE!!!!!
www.3gplaza.com/estore/control/Computer3G/productdetails?id=43373&srccode=PW I'm going to have it in my bedroom and double it as a TV. I just hope it won't be too damn big to sit at my cmop and use. |
A couple months ago I ordered a pair of these from Newegg, one for me and one for my wife:
ASPIRE X-QPACK case ASUS A8N-VM motherboard AMD 64 4400+ ATHLON X2 CPU 1Gx2 CORSAIR Twinx2048-3200 RAM 16X DVD±RW PLEXTOR DVD Burner NVidia 7800GT Video card 300MB hard drive Nice, compact machines that went together with no problems at all. Installed XP Pro on both of them and they are fast and reliable. I'll probably upgrade one of them to run Windows Vista this summer some time. |
Sounds like mine
www.fieroloki.com/mypc.html Edit: Need pics with the new MB in... This Jetway MB KICKS ASS!!!!! |
Damn, remind me to get off my ass and build my next computer. Sounds kick ass.
thats what im talking about...people that are into video editing and things of that sort....not joe schmoe at Starbucks or Staples |
