a couple days a week I work at this small business to make a extra couple bucks, the money is good and its early in the morning before my shop opens so why not.

Anyways I am just wondering if you are on a network can someone see the sites you have gone to?
Can they monitor the network to see the websites you are currently working on?

during the day i check on ARFCOM but the rule is no websites having to do with violence or weapons or porn. Its dumb but i was just curious if they can really tell if i am going to these websites?

If I delete my history it wont be on my computer but I am guessing the network records the activity?

thx

The short answer is...it depends.

Depending on the firewall/proxy/router system they use they could know.

If they have monitoring software on the system then they could know.

If they have a sniffer on the network then they could know.

It IS rather funny to see what sites people in a closed office will visit when they think no one knows.  We had a guy at work surfing porn non-stop and had over 80Gigs of porn videos on his machine.

Which I could give a rat's ass about, but it was a good thing to throw at him when we caught him trying to hack the Exchange server, our HP switches, and when he had set up an HP-UX box at work, on my precious T1, to SERVE porn.

Idiot.  His initial excuse to his supervisor was that he was simply doing homework for a sociology class, and that he had inadvertantly gotten to some nudity sites.  His supervisor bought his story and told me that I was overreacting / exaggerating.

That's when I put together a powerpoint with screencaps and a list of movie titles for her to see....

{and we're not talking vanilla porn - we're talking scat movies and worse}

The shorter answer... YES

(any company if inclined can have its ISP logs pulled for history)

Your IT department (if your company has one) can see anywhere you go if they want to.  If your company has a policy against personal use, I'd refrain, or at least keep it to a minimum.  Some have a stricty policy on paper, but are pretty laid back in reality.  You just have to get to know your IT people.  If they're incompetent or just don't care, then surf away (but I'd stay away from porn and the like).

Depends on whether the ISP even keeps logs.  I doubt most do, at least not for more than 24 hours.  If you logged where every user went all the time, you'd amass more data than you could affordably store.  Now if your employer requested the ISP keep logs of specific users for specific purposes, they would probably do that.

I can see anything that comes from an IP within my network if I so choose. I don't log that crap because I don't care If you REALLY have to look up gurlies while you are at work...okay....

But if you install a dialer or any of the other malware associated with those sites I will embaress you.

Yes. It can very easily be done with proxy servers and alot of companies already use them for just this purpose. Proxy servers are also very commonly used to completely filter out access to some websites.

The network consists of a main computer (the bosses with router) and 3 other computers (yeah not very big)

he isn't on his computer that much so i dont think he is sitting there watching,

does anonomizer or the cloak work in hiding your stuff?
