So here at UM there has been a big controversy with the janitors (mostly illegals, or at least immigrants) and the pay/treatment they get from the service contractor they work for (UNICCO)

So they're going on strike this week. The liberal faculty don't want to cross the picket lines, and are talking about holding classes off campus. If they think I'm going to show up off campus they can kiss my ass.

Thier union is going to take a whack on the pee-pee if they picket Uof M.

Thier dispute is not with Uof M, it's with thier employer.

It is a violation of the NLRA (National labor law) to engage in
a secondary picket.

Make the professors do the cleaning. And besides, you get all the education you need right here on ARFCOM.

So the University caved. Note they were NOT who the workers were striking against though. The univ has now set a policy that all contractors need to pay a starting wage of ~$8/hr-$9.50/hr depending on the kind of work done, or the contractor will no longer do work for the university.

Pretty sad world when illegal aliens can dictate company policy

the same students who pony up $30k/yr for tuition? thanks to this wage increase, i bet tuition will go up another 5k/yr

Sounds like the University needs a better contracting officer. All they had to do was reference the wage determination when they solicitated the contract. Then the winner bidder would have been required to pass a certain minimum.
