Well after getting ousted from my last job and moving I have a job offer to go back.

I can move into my old house (didnt sell yet) and commute to new job . 1 to 1.5 hours each way.

I will be offered 62k and a company car with all the free gas I can burn.

This job I have a civil service here in the midwest and in 6months It would take an act of god to be fired. The new job is tougher but nothing I cant handle. There is also no promise of work forever.

you can make a case to stay or go, I am leaning on going back for various reasons (gun laws not withstanding)

Man this sucks and no matter what I Choose there is trade off . BUt working outside of D.C.and living on the eastern shore seems better than dealing with endless cornfields, dumpy areas and the such. Either way it costs me a bundle ......

No degree so I got to be selective . But if I move to the coast I can see my family and friends alot easier than from the emptyness of farm fields .

Sounds like you are an Eastener at heart.

I say quit the civil service job and go back.

I admit I'm curious if the job in Maryland is at the same employer that booted you before.

I am leaving MD in 4 months as soon as my house is finished getting built.

Maryland isn't to bad with gun laws in that there are loop holes so big you can drive a 20 lane highway thought. There are bills in the house now that will hopfully get us CCW. 7 date wait on some ARs but you can get any type you want. Class III easer then most states.

If you are into hand guns, that can be a problem. Most are approved on the list, and its a 7 day wait. But be ready to pay +$100 or more b/c of the locks.

21 rounds or higher you can't get shiped into the state, but you can go to one of the many gun shows in PA or VA and just pick them up and bring them in. (one of the loop holes). Or just have them shiped to a friend in aother state and go pick them up. Just don't buy or have shiped in 21 or higher rounds thats a no no.

Traffic sucks in MD, but then again it sucks most places. Taxes are high. There is a AWB in the house right now that would ban pretty much all semi autos. It fail by one vote last year. The govener will veto it but the house has the votes to over trun it.

Soon as I get the money I plan on moving to WV. If the AWB is pasted I will be out even quicker.

Don't forget housing prices that are skyhigh, and increasing 15% a year. And the one gun a month law (can't recall if it's one long gun or one handgun per month).

$62,000 isn't anything in Maryland, for one thing.

When did you live there last? It's gotten WAY more crowded in the last 15 years since I moved there

Civil service job makes for a nice pension & medical benefits on retirement. Don't undervalue that

Gun laws alone........

Go where you think you will be happiest. Add all the pros and cons up. I don't even consider gun laws to be a factor anymore when it comes to where I want to live. Honestly, if that is SO damn important then move to Wyoming or something - but I would be miserable there.

We, by all rights, had it "made" in TN - owned a house free and clear, good jobs, low cost of living, lax gun laws. But we missed Florida - so we traded off the good there for the good here, and have no regrets.

I think I would live in WV if I HAD to work in MD.

I was stationed there, and, didn't like it one bit.

Lots of the soldiers had to live in Haggerstown
or Harper's Ferry because of houseing costs.

Well, that's becoming a bigger issue here than the AWB. Which I'm hoping will drown out the AWB idiots. This year there's about 30 less supporters of the bill, which is great.

Frankly I'd wait until after the Guber election this year. If Ehrlich manages to stick around for another term I imagine he'll be in a better position to help with gun laws. It won't be easy though there are some real lib-tard, ass-hat contenders that the libbies of MD woould love to have instead of a qualified republican who's actually gotten things done and who inherited a real mess from the previous governor.

Long drives like that will catch up with you real quick. Waking up in a Indiana cornfield is easier than waking up as a southbound hood ornament on a northbound Mack in Maryland.

I like the corn fields also, but we dont have as many, gotta plant the valleys and live on the hills

I took a job in NY when I got out of the military. I love NY history and have studied it all my life, but the things I had to give up when it comes to my shooting sports hobbies made me realize that shooting is a major portion of my life, and my love of CL III toys is too great to live behind enemy lines.

I gave up a job that paid far north of $62k due to the LONG commute (nearly 2 hours each way). It will grind you down fast.

Taxes are high, real property prices are high, lots of liberals, long commute, and socialistic style nanny state laws. I didn't really like living there (D.C. suburbs).

Southern Maryland and the Eastern shore are still pretty nice though.

My dad still lives up on Kent Island. I visit a couple of times a year, don't miss it one bit. Even though the fishing is good.

I actually like Indiana. I'd live there (except I like my home in Ohio better

). About the only two places I hated in Indiana were Indy and Gary.

Really, I just hate cities. I'd live in Jamestown California in the Sierra foothills over Austin Texas any day, guns be damned.

Follow your heart and do what you gotta do. Personally, I'll take endless cornfields over endless traffic and commotion any day of the week, but I'm strange that way. I'm just a midwest kinda guy.
