17 Arrested at Florida Neo-Nazi Rally

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Fistfights broke out and police made 17 arrests Saturday at a neo-Nazi rally and march through a predominantly black neighborhood.

In khaki uniforms, tall black boots and red arm patches bearing swastikas, about 30 members of the National Socialist Movement were barricaded on one side by SWAT team members at the rally. On the other side of the SWAT officers, a group of about 100 black-clad counter-demonstrators, many covering their faces with black masks, held anti-Nazi signs.

Several counter-demonstrators were arrested before the march officially began when pockets of violence erupted, police said. It was not immediately clear whether anyone was hurt.

The march went on as planned through the Orlando neighborhood of Parramore, with about 500 spectators and counter-demonstrators following the group. Grandparents held the hands of their grandchildren as they watched the march from the front of their homes.

"The older generation grew up seeing hate. They grew up seeing these kinds of groups being open and I think for some African-Americans they want the younger generations to see that hate still exists," said the Rev. O'Hara Black of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

No members of the neo-Nazi group were arrested, police said.

Fourteen of those arrested are members of out-of-town groups such as the Skinheads Against Racial Prejudices and the Southeastern Anarchist Network, said Orlando police spokeswoman Barb Jones. All faced charges including disorderly conduct, battery on a law enforcement officer and wearing a mask, police said.

More than 300 law enforcement officers were on hand, hoping to avoid the violence that marked another gathering of the Minneapolis-based neo-Nazi group in October in Toledo, Ohio. A march there led to a riot in which businesses were burned and looted and bricks were thrown at police.

On Saturday, neo-Nazis held signs with such slogans as "White People Unite" and statistics claiming that crime is predominantly committed by blacks. Later, they made Nazi salutes at City Hall as a SWAT team separated the demonstrators from a jeering crowd.

During the march, the neo-Nazis walked on one side of the road and the protesters on the other, separated by two lines of police. Both groups hurled insults.

Counter-demonstrators held signs including ones that read, "Stop the hate. Stop the violence" and "Love everyone."

"For them to come into our neighborhood, it's wrong; it's a slap in the face," said Donnell Jones, 33.

No real reason, other than that there are dumb people on both sides of the Mason Dixon line.   You find them everywhere.    Most of them don't even know they are dumb

I was there for this. I was actually downtown to watch the 3k and 12k run and walk around the lake with my girlfriend. I didnt know it was going on until I was there.

The neo-nazi's were there to bring awareness to predominantly black crimes committed in Orlando.

The most outspoken counter activists were actually white-mostly women. Saying things like the neo-nazi's were the ones committing crimes, i'm not taking sides whatsoever, but I guess they never heard of the 1st Amendment.

I even saw a "nazi sympathizer" as they stated on the news, get attacked by a crowd of white peace activists, who were angry about the rally.

Overall, the local 88's got to march around. While the peace activists got arrested, or started fights. Pretty retarded all the way around IMHO

There are plenty of idiots wherever you go.

It's all about getting a reaction, and judging from the news article and the vents surrounding it, they got just what they wanted.

The worst thing that the black people can do is to resist this kinda stupidity.  Any sort of resistance or reaction they show adds fuel to the moron's fire.

Fights Break Out At Neo-Nazi Rally In Orlando
February 25, 2006
www.wftv.com/news/7442292/detail.html
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two opposing groups hurled insults at each other across police barricades Saturday during a tension-filled neo-Nazi rally that culminated in 17 arrests.

Clad in khaki uniforms, tall black boots and red arm patches bearing swastikas, about 30 members of the National Socialist Movement were barricaded on one side by SWAT team members.

On the other side, a group of black-clad counter-demonstrators, many covering their faces with black masks, held anti-Nazi signs.

Several counter-demonstrators were arrested before the march officially began when pockets of violence erupted, police said.

A total of 17 people were arrested Saturday, including 14 members of out-of-town groups such as the Skinheads Against Racial Prejudices and the Southeastern Anarchist Network were arrested, said Orlando Police spokeswoman Barb Jones.

All faced charges including disorderly conduct, battery on a law enforcement officer and wearing a mask, police said.

No members of the Minneapolis-based National Socialist Movement were arrested, police said. A spokesman for the neo-Nazi group said they were protesting crime in Orlando.

During the march, the group held signs bearing slogans such as "White People Unite." Later, they made Nazi salutes at the federal courthouse as a SWAT team separated the white supremacists from a jeering crowd.

About 500 spectators and counter-demonstrators followed the group through Parramore, a historically black Orlando neighborhood.

But other Parramore residents felt the march was a personal affront.

"For them to come into our neighborhood it's wrong, it's a slap in the face," said Donnell Jones, 33.

Art Litka and his family pinned large, yellow stars of David to their shirts in what they called a silent protest against the neo-Nazi group.

"There's anger and disgust," said Litka, 58. "This is an outrage that this kind of demonstration has to occur."

Before the rally, authorities encouraged counter-demonstrators to stay home, hoping to avoid the violence that occurred when the same group marched through Toledo, Ohio, in October. A riot ensued, during which protesters threw rocks at police and burned down a bar.

About 300 law enforcement officers, including K-9 units and officers on horses, patrolled Saturday's rally, Jones said.

No, I got those pics off the Orlando Sentinal's website anyways.

Ironically, when I was watching this on the news, this was the main headline, so of course they play two more stores before getting to this one...the first one, 2 black men were wanted in the killing of another, and another group of 3 wanted in a robbery.

I just thought it was kinda odd that they did that, because they started the story on the March, with one of the Neo-Nazis saying they wanted to bring awareness to black crime.

And if i'm gonna beat a cop, i'm sure as hell not gonna do it when there are 299 other ones running around with fire extinguishers full of mace(thats what they showed on the local news)

I do not know much about  the National Socialist party, however I do know enough to have been really shocked when I met 3 of them in person.  They came into a bar and were very polite and sociable.  The only thing that struck me as odd was that one of them was black.

All 3 were just 21 years old and said they had been serving in Iraq.  They all had military IDs.

I really do not know enough about the American National Socialist party, but I have met 2 other people who are for it other than the 3 I met that night.  One is an ex LEO (he joined the Army), and the other one really did not have much bad to say.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in my limited dealings with them, I think that at least some of them are just American nationalists and have a great sense of country and pride and had an attitude of "it aint gonna fix itself".

OK I will. NO American "nationalist" wants ANY kind of SOCIALISM in any way, shape or form. I seriously hope no US serviceman would violate his oath by subscribing to socialism.

When the Nazi party started up after WW1, communism and marxism was all the rage in Germany. The Nazis just used the word socialism to get a foot in the door so to speak. Nazism is socialism of sorts but it goes on the principles of the strong dominating the weak. Communism goes on the principle of the weak/poor dominating (i.e. killing) the strong/educated.

Nazism = "hello mr handicap/jew/homo/brown/gypsy, off to the gas chamber with you!"
Communsim = "hello mr college educated army officer, off to the gulag with you!"

Both of them are just evil.

Well, you're wrong regardless of how in depth you go. Hitler did not name the National Socialist Deutsche Arbeits Partei (NSDAP). The group was formed before Hitler became involved with them. Hitler became involved with them in order to spy on the group for the Army, who wanted to keep an eye on various groups. Hitler started going to meetings in this capacity, but in short order decided he liked the direction of this group, and ended up joining it. It was his success as an orator that enabled him to rise up to nominally head the group in the 20's....

The rest is as they say, history...
