Nice!
Were they all auctioned off for $25k, or was that just a special one? |
I just cross-posted it to the M1 forum.
Mods, don't move this. Way too cool of a thread. |
If my memory serves me correctly, it was a new in wrap and mint Springfield Armory, all original (never been refurbed), and it was a WWII serial number. I believe most of the new in wrap guns they found were post WWII manufacture. |
Everyone of those guys has a parts stash that you wouldn't believe also.
Ahh, looks like the GCA volunteer tour. Too bad this event will never repeat itself. The amount of rifles the GCA members 'processed' was a benefit as they removed quite a backlog.
They used to have crates at the north store now and then, not sure if that is still the case? |
Where did they "find" these ? |
When was this? I thought they stopped those events a couple years ago?
Boating accident? I would like to get ahold of one of those crates. |

Thanks for posting this TacticalStrat !
( Hastily filling out my CMP paperwork) |
The 'new in the wrap' ones recently auctioned were returned from Greece. |
This was the first and last large GCA/CMP event like this. Furthermore CMP has stopped all volunteer work even from individuals IIRC. |
If I had a crate of Garands like that I woudl ahve stakcs of three rifles (the pyramid by stackign swivel) all over my house
damn I need mroe garands |
Why is that? Was there a pilferage problem? Interested to hear "the rest of the story". Excellent photos, makes meh drool! |
unfortunately, it had to do with liability insurance... |
Ah, our litigious nature ruins yet another great tradition. I work with a doctor who is a Garand nut. He has made at least one trip to volunteer helping them. I'll email him and see if he's heard. Thanks. |

Hah... I'm thinking, "why the hell is everyone wearing T-shirts?" I just bought my Garand at the north store last week and I wore my coat the whole time.
Too many payouts for Garand thumb ? |
drool!
The date on the pictures says 4/25 and 4/26 2003. Is that when this really happened, or is this definitely a recent event? Wonder how many total they got in - spectacular! |
Definitely a past event. There's a pic or 2 in there somewhere of a stack of Greek-return M1Cs and Ds. |
FYI: The original link that I posted with the 45 pics was shut-down (guessing to many hits from AR15.com). Luckily I had downloaded all the pics, so I uploaded them and posted them all in the original post in this thread.
Thanks for taking the time to post em. |
Actually it was a PAIR of 2 new in wrap Garands that went for $25K on the auction site.. they DID auction off ONE new in wrap that went for $13K. The CMP only had 59 new in wrap Garand (now down to 56. NONE were of WW-II vintage. The 3 that were auctioned off and the remaining 56 are in the 5mil serial number range......
the total Greek Garands returned numbered about 45K |
And I thought there were supposed to be running low on Garands.
When I drove by two weeks ago to get my ammo, they said hopefully this summer. |
