Twenty two days after sending in my order-form and application to the CMP, my "Collector Grade" Harrington & Richardson Arms Garand arrived Fed Ex to my door. According to the CMP, the HRA collector grade has all original finish from the manufacturer and all original matching HRA parts. Upon inspection, I verified this to be true.

The metal looks to be unfired. The bolt-face doesn't have a mark on it and looks new. Wear on the reciever and operating handle looks like the action was cycled by hand a few dozen times, and that's it. The stock has lots of dings and scratches, I'm assuming from 50 years of storage and being moved around the world a few times. Maybe the rifle was drilled with, but it appears to have never been fired.

I posted the Mauser pics by mistake. It's a Venezuelan Mauser made by FN, chambered for 7mm Mauser. It was made in the 30's and it's unfired. Here's some pics of it:

That's a very nice Garand. It is even nicer than my 1953 Springfield Garand, as yours seems to have a pretty flawless finish on it. Mine just has some finish wear around the high spots. You got a pretty good rifle.

Be sure to take good care of it.

Very nice Garand.

But I'm confused by this:

I posted the Mauser pics by mistake. It's a Venezuelan Mauser made by FN, chambered for 7mm Mauser. It was made in the 30's and it's unfired. Here's some pics of it:

I would understand "...was unfired", but I can't understand, "...is unfired".

Rifles are fer shootin'.

I know. I keep thinking I want to shoot it, but I just never get around to doing it. I shoot all of my guns except a few. I also have an unfired 30's Persian Mauser and a 99% Winchester 1897 riot-gun (made in 1916) that I don't shoot. All the rest get shot regularly. I may start reloading again soon and then I'll be able to load some cheap non-corrosive 8mm and 7mm Mauser ammo to shoot in the Persian and Venezuelan.

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the Garand. I really appreciate it.

I felt the same way. I spent years looking for a minty Garand to add to my collection. All I found were a bunch of faked parts-guns. When I found out about these CMP Garands, I was all over it. I think the CMP is the only way to go for a Garand. I'd bet 90% of the Garands that are for sale outside of the CMP are faked and misrepresented. Unless you're an expert, you're likely gonna get screwed if you buy a Garand outside of the CMP.

Interesting note... that rifle has been in MANY hands over the years and it is a tool. It MAY have seen battle. It has probably seen many days in bad weather...

Yet it is in a HELL of a lot better condition the younger table its sitting on is in.

ETA: DAMN!!! I was wrong... its on a butcher block

Gorgeous.  What's the plan for it?  Are you going to make a display for it, or will it be a safe queen to show VIP's?  Or do you plan to *gasp* shoot it?

I also ordered a 768 round case of Greek 30.06 from the CMP. I definitely plan to shoot it.

Thanks!

Nearly all guns are test fired after manufacture. If you fire more than a few rounds, it will create a ring on the bolt face. This Garand has zero wear or discoloration on the bolt face, which indicates it was fired less than maybe a dozen rounds. For all practical purposes, it's acceptable to label it as unfired.
