The best of both worlds (cartridge/design) or a abomination before god? To me it seems the best of both.. A reliable design and a light weight cartridge.. What do you think.. Well besides the availability of mags..

Abomination. It just.....isn't.....right.....not......meant.....to.....be......

If you show me a .223 AK that is as accurate as an AR, with synthetic stocks, then MAYBE it's a great combo. But that's why we have the Galil, Sig 550, and the Sako M95 series. Now THOSE are literally the top three choices for me for best battle rifles in the world. So, actually, you might be on to something....just as long as it's a modified AK, not just a Romanian WASR that takes .223 (although if it works for you, more power to ya).

In sum,

- If you want a true AK that looks like a normal AK but in a small caliber, get it in 5.45 instead of .223

- If you just want the best of both worlds, hands down the Galil, M95, and Sig 550 are the best

I think its a decent way to go. Though 5.45 is about as accurate and more authentic. Your main issue with 5.56 will be the short barrels on AK's, but its the same issue with any carbine. Also the 5.56 will be slightly less reliable due the straight case vs tapered case, at least theoretically.

A fine shooting little rifle.  Never fails.  A great trunk gun.

I love mine. I got it from my wife as a present. It shoots good but finding mags can be a bitch. As far as being the best of both words.......no.

It's a solid little rifle. I don't have one, but I know people that do.

Pros: AK reliability, generally chrome lined bores (that I've seen), .223/5.56mm availability

Cons: TRIGGER, no great way to mount optics (forward mounts on one in particular suck, won't retain zero)

I think for my purpose, it would be the best of both. The joy of an AK without the PITA of 5.45 ammo. Keeps me from having to further diversify ammo stocks.

I sold mine if that means anything.

To adress the cons, you can get a red-star trigger group that is excellent. And if you get a good optics mount they don't suck (ultimak holds zero with no problems) Or you can go the siderail mount route, or if you want to spend the cash get a full rail system (costs more than the damn gun, but they rock)

I (foolishly) sold a Norinco .223 in '89 before I joined the Army-it dented the bejeezus out of brass when ejecting.  Even more foolishly, I bought it because it was only $300 (including three magazines) instead of the $400 for a Valmet AK47 that I was also looking at getting...

anything less than 7.62x39 in an AK is an abomination.  Even MK thought so.

An AK doesn't need 5.56x45, that's what 5.45x39 is for.

Honestly!   I'll grant that the AK is a simple weapon, but I just don't believe you could train an elephant to use one.

+1

Commie guns should shoot commie cartridges, and american guns american cartridges. There's no good reason for that, it's just "feelings".

The folding stock gives makes it more compact than an AR can be.  It has that going for it, and price.

it is "you're a freak" not "your a freak"

"You're" is a contraction between the words "you" and "are", and "your" is a possessive pronoun.

I am just trying to explain, that despite my previous statements pertaining to my negative attitude towards wimpy little cartridges in AK's, I am unable to vote in the poll due to the inaccuracies in the questions being presented.

I purchased ten Norinco AKMs in 5.56 before I bought my first one in 7.62x39.

They are remarkable weapons.
