MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- A car prowler got away Tuesday night with the badge and gun of a Clackamas County deputy.
MilwaukieThe sheriff's office says the off-duty deputy parked outside a dance studio on Lake Drive in Milwaukie. She went inside on personal business, apparently leaving her purse, containing her badge, gun and other items, in plain view inside the car.
A thief smashed the window, took the items and ran. A police dog tracked the scent to Lake Crest Apartments, but no suspect was located.
The sheriff's office has no policy or regulations concerning such matters.
"(Division commanders) will review the policy. If they think it needs adjusting, it might be adjusted. But at this point, it isn't a violation of policy," Detective Wendi Babst told KOIN News 6.
The suspect is described as a white man in his mid- to late 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build, dark-brown hair and a moustache.
