What kind of timeframe do you guys go with for lunchmeat? I am debating on whether to eat some turkey that is from the 7th? Too long ago or prefectly fine?

Turkey seems to go bad quicker than other cold cuts ... If I can't eat the turkey within 4-5 days tops it gets tossed.

Stuff that's more heavily processed, smoked or otherwise preserved (stuff like salami, bologna, some types of ham) seem to have a little bit longer shelf life (maybe a week or so).

Over 2 weeks, I gotta say you're pushing your luck a bit.

Smell it and if there is any question about it being bad, throw it out. Ask yourself if it's worth eating the turkey if you run the risk of spending 3-7 days with blowout diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc, etc.

Some strains of E. coli and Salmonella are so bad that you will wish for death. No joke, I work in a research lab with them everyday and know how sick they can make you (although thankfully not firsthand).

when it has a slimey film on it, it's too old and needs to be thrown out, thats a sign it's breaking down and not safe to eat.

You can extend the life a little bit by pan frying it thoroughly on BOTH sides over high heat.

Not sure if Turkey will be palateable after that but Ham is pretty good that way.

Depends on the brand and how it was packaged.
Vacuum sealed and never opened it should be fine.
opened, proceed at your own risk.

+1 on the smell and slime tests.  If it passes those, I'd nuke it and get it sizzling hot and make a hot sandwich out of it.  it won't make it sterile, but the heat will kill a lot of bacteria and give your immune system a better chance.

It was kinda slimy, but here in PA we only get our lunch meat from a deli fresh cut. None of that packaged shit. I will update when i start befriending the crapper later on. I did douse it in some hot horseradish mustard which im sure killed all the germs :)

We may need to take up a collection. I don't think the mortician will be able to remove the horrible grimace from WindGap's face, so for the sake of his friends and relatives, maybe a quick cremation would be best.

RIP, WindGap
