Just curious is all, Mom and I were talking about it today.
Here (California) we've got lethal injection. |

+1 However I believe in Oregon they bore them to death on death row. |
From Wikipedia: "At present, only Washington and New Hampshire still retain hanging as an option. Laws changed in 1996 that penalties of death must be executed by injection unless the convict chooses hanging, but none has taken place ever since." |

Pardoned by the Governor.

No death penalty here.
Iowa Governor Thomas J. Vilsack (D) is opposed to the death penalty. Regarding Iowa's policy towards the death penalty, he said “we do have a death sentence in Iowa and that's life in prison without parole.” |
We have two, maybe? Feds in Terre Haute, lethal injection. State, electric chair @ Michigan City, but I think we may have switched to the go bye-bye juice sometime back?
one of the few states that still have Electric chair
they only use it about every 20 years or so |

Otherwise known affectionately as 'Ol Sparky'. |

Just as long as it doesn't cause an 'ouchy'. CA? Right? hmm... Beat a young, innocent girl. Hit her as hard as you can with a hammer. Repeatedly. Then stab her. Repeat as necessary until you are, for the most part, sure she's DEAD. 23 or so years later, you might be put to death, as long as it isn't painful. But of course she was given the same consideration. Absofuckinglutely Lovely. Progress. What A Wonderful thing. |

Apparently dying of old age, since we ain't killed one in a while.

Iron Maiden "Hallowed Be Thy Name"
I’m waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime Reflecting on my past life and it doesn’t have much time Cos at 5 o’clock they take me to the gallows pole The sands of time for me are running low When the priest comes to read me the last rites I take a look through the bars at the last sights Of a world that has gone very wrong for me Can it be there’s some sort of error Hard to stop the surmounting terror Is it really the end not some crazy dream Somebody please tell me that I’m dreaming It’s not so easy to stop from screaming But words escape me when I try to speak Tears they flow but why am I crying After all I am not afraid of dying Don’t believe that there is never an end As the guards march me out to the courtyard Someone calls from a cell God be with you If there’s a God then why has he let me die? As I walk all my life drifts before me And though the end is near I’m not sorry Catch my soul cos it’s willing to fly away Mark my words please believe my soul lives on Please don’t worry now that I have gone I’ve gone beyond to see the truth When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then you’ll begin to understand Life down there is just a strange illusion. |

This would be what my mom and I were talking about... |

The screeching of Cindy Sheehan, Sarah Brady, Barbra Boxer, and Diane Feinstein amplified to 110 decibles and a "Fecalator" gun until you die.
Or you can opt out of that to have your nuts coated in pig's blood and dipped abdomen first into a pool of starved pirhana. So far, its getting rather difficult to call those piranahas "starved," what with as many people are opting for them. |
Well, looks like we don't even have lethal injection anymore.
They just said they couldn't find someone qualified to " hook'em up".
WTF, a bunch a liberal pussy's in that state or what? |
And now you know what started the conversation mentioned in the original post. |

ESH? where is that? (feeling like it is really obvious but, I just havent had enough coffee yet) |
I really don't get Kali's recent decisions.
Protection against cruel and unusual punishment DOES NOT mean that no pain can be inflicted when executing someone. Dying is SUPPOSED to hurt. That's why it is called an EXECUTION, and not taking a very very long NAP. |

It is the judge that gave the kindness order...he was requiring medical professional to not only do it but do something that goes against the oath that medical professionals take. So, they couldnt find someone to do the job. Usually in CA, there is no doctor directly involved. He sits outside in a private room behind monitors. When they flat line, he declares death. The judge was ordering active participation of a doctor |
Yeah. Being on death row is God's fault.... And people wonder why I never liked heavy metal or rap....self indulgent whining. |
It was US district Judge Fogel who made the orders. This is why the docs quit...(from Johnandken.com) "The apparent sticking point was the physicians' obligation, under procedures specified by a federal appeals court in a ruling Sunday, to intervene if Morales appeared to regain consciousness or displayed signs of pain. The court said the anesthesiologists would then have to take steps to render the inmate unconscious or "otherwise alleviate the painful effects'' of the drugs. "Any such intervention would clearly be medically unethical,'' the doctors said in a written statement today. "As a result, we have withdrawn from participation in this current process.'' |
Holy crap. Just shoot the cork sucker and be done with it. All this damn hand wringing over whether or not brutal murderers "feel pain" is making me want to throw up. |
Only if the inmate chose firing squad prior to its elimination, which was 2/2004 by the governor. Utah last used firing squad in 1996... Oddly enough, while reading about botched executions, there is not one botched firing squad listed.... |

I think you might be interpreting the song incorrectly. The way I read it, it is being sung from the perspective of the condemned, much like a fictional account in a novel. It doesn't imply or suggest that the writer actually holds this belief, or is using it as an argument to support a particular position. It's fiction, so anything goes. The problem people seem to have when listening to or reading metal lyrics, is the automatic assumption that the singer is advocating something immoral. The subject matter is often dark and morbid, but it is often written in the first person as a fictional account. It's much like reading a horror novel, yet few accuse the author of immoral advocacy... ...unless it's accompanied by an overdriven synchopatic muted e-string. |
