There may come a time when you can't easily buy it. Probably potassium nitrate and ammonium nitrate. That's my guess. |

I helped a plumber once, saw all the potassium nitrate build up in the pipes. The smell?

How could potassium nitrate form in the pipes? It's extremely soluable, any that formed would rinse away with each flush. |

yep. I can see a day when the BATFEI will require extensive fingerprinting, licensing, fees etc just to buy blackpowder. We've already had congress critters propose licensing requirements to purchase fertilizer... |

Yes, but it will disolve with the other 3 or 4 gallons of water coming down the pipe. My guess is it wasn't potassium nitrate at all in the pipes and the plumber didn't know what he was talking about. It was more likely mineral salts or calcium from hard water. |
