And along the way it would find that it had “reformed” a corrupt, dysfunctional, sclerotic anti-American club into a lean, mean, functioning, effective anti-American club. Which is, if they’re honest, what most reformers mean by “reform.”

That about sums it up.

Screw the UN.

Man, isn't it ironic that little, if any of this has reported here in the U.S.?

One of the mystifying aspects of UN worship is the assumption that this embryo world government is a “progressive” concept. It’s not. Most of us in our business and family and consumer relationships are plugged into global networks far better for the long-term health of the planet than using American money to set up Eurowimp talking shops manned by African thugs—which is what the UN Human Rights Commission boils down to.

the bigger .gov gets the more fucked up it gets. the un is the biggest and therfore the most fucked up of all.

That article pretty much sums up my entire opinion about the UN, except he was a little more polite. I'd have added "fuck the UN" at the end if I'd written it.

Do research on the UN "Man and Biosphere" also. It talks about taking millions of acres of YOUR U.S. land and putting it back into the control of the animals. Oh, and also, the UN just happens to be the caretaker of the program.

Don't belive it? Just drive into The Great Smoky Mountains national park and you see engraved into the entrance sign "Great Smoky Mountains National Park....[and underneath] An International Biosphere Reserve".
The latter part refers directly to the UN "Man and Biosphere".

Like it or not, the following are UN Biospheres:

Smoky Mountains National Park
Yellowstone National Park
Mammoth Cave, KY
The Statue of Liberty

Why in the world, would we give up our soverign nation to the UN?
Beats the hell out of me

Not this idiotic bullshit again...

Being part of the "UN Biosphere" does NOT put our parks under UN control...it just says that we agreed to standards set up under the aegis of the UN to run national parks.

Once again, WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THE UNITED STATES GIVE UP ANYTHING TO THE UNITED NATIONS.

Damn, I am getting old and getting tired of calling down and educating young, stupid people.

Not as tired of it as I am...we ARE NOT GIVING ANYTHING UP TO THE UN.  We are part of a conservation organization.  We agreed to certain standards to be part of it.  If we fail to live up to those standards, the only consequence would be THEY TAKE DOWN THE FUCKING SIGNS.

True.  But the facts behind my post mean a lot.  And they are easily checked out.  The UN doesn't control our national parks.  Anyone who says they do is misinformed or else living in a fantasy world where facts don't penetrate.

I don't like the UN either. But someone with 46 posts shouldn't complain about being "tired of calling down and educating young, stupid people"  Rikwriter is none of these (well, maybe he is young) but he sure isn't stupid. YOU I'm not so sure about.

I'll ask again,  who is this tinfoil hat-type RBK to call Rik stupid ? For the record I agree with the Mark Steyn piece. I have posted links to Steyns columns before here. Did you even read it ? The UN sucks , but the biosphere designation does nothing to surrender sovereignty. Nothing.

I agree with it too.  I have no love for the UN.  At its best, it was impotent and useless.  Now it's worse than useless.

The problem with the UN is that it gets too involved with Polotics and social programs.  Not saying that it would be wrong to lend aid to other countries and medical help to children, but there are other ways to bring help to others.  The UN would be better off as just a world forum for leaders to meet and discuss issues of international importance.  There should be no "peace keeping" missions. no talk of independant national soverignty being equated to national fascism and the UN should not be a soverign entity itself capable of entering treaties.
