I have a book that does not have 5.56 in it, thus i am looking for the max case length of a 5.56 piece of brass. I have about 3K rounds of mil brass to trim, and i would like to have these cases prepped and loaded before i get my sig 556(hopefully mid fall to early winter)
is there a difference in length between 223 and 5.56? i know they are interchangeable, but if i go to the trouble of trimming the cases i would like them to be to spec.
thanks

No, the difference between the two is in the leade of the rifling, the 5.56 NATO having greater freebore which lowers the peak chamber pressure.

sorry i meant the length of the brass... i checked the book and for 223 it is supposed to be 1.75 trimmed, and 1.76 max.
thanks for the confirmation that they are the same, now it looks like i have my night cut out for me... sitting infront of the TV trimming away thousands of cases!

edit:

i forgot how much fun trimming brass was!!!
