I have been battling this crap since I got home Sunday night. A week of fun in the sun, drinking to excess, and that sick bastage next to me on the plane home got my butt but good.

SinceI work outdooors, and this week was the coldest week in years (naturally) I have been battling it with various methods.

Alka Seltzer Cold Plus, Aleve, Cold Pills from work "Relief S-F", Tylenol Cold and Flu and just came home to some TheraFlu.

I have been sneakin up on it with various schedules of the above, take one, wait 4 or 5 hours then take something else. I felt rather good all week considering.

What works for you to battle the flu bug??

I used to get my ass kicked by the flu. I'd take all sorts of medicine and other shit and I'd still have it for a week or more.

I no longer take much of any medicines and the flu won't even last me four days.

I agree with Northern born Bebel.  Nyquil Knocks me out and I sleep all night.  There is also a Dayquil.  I think Walmart has a knock off thats probably just as good.  Good luck.

drink plenty of fluids like chicken noodle soup and orange juice

also wear several layers of clothing and go running, make your body sweat until your soaking with sweat
that helps get rid of the Flu virus more quickly than just resting

also try sitting in a hot sauna after exersizing

raising your body temperature via vigorous cardio workouts seems to help

Actually.. I have the answer to this...

I got the flu really bad in January & had to go to the emergency room... i seriously thought I was going to die.

The Dr recommended the following drug routine...

Take 2 Max strength Tylenol.  Then four hours later.... take 2 Max strength Motrin.  Then four hours later  Take 2 Max strength Tylenol.  Then four hours later... take to Max strength Mortin.

Keep repeating this until you feel better... You will be taking medication every 4 hours.  it is easiest to do on a 12, 4, 8, routine.

hope you feel better.

Too late for Tamiflu, bruddah.  Symptomatic treatment only.  I've heard some folks say that getting good and drunk helps!

Treat the symptoms with analgesics and decongestants if you need to, and get lots of fluid.

There's not really much of anything you can do.  Once the virus has found a good place to live and replicate, your immune system needs time to identify it and create antibodies (or whatever).

Of all the various wives tales and general advice, the only really reliable one is to make sure you've got lots of fluids, as far as I can tell.

Nyquil.

I just drink it from the bottle, I don't even bother measuring it.  I'll wake up 15 hrs later feeling much better.

Drink LOTS of water too.  Keep a pitcher of ice water next to where you sleep.

I'm afriad you have the bird flu. The green parrot in my avatar is an expert on the subject, and he concurs...there is no cure. You will soon die. Send us all your guns and I promise they'll be given a good home.

And avoid sugars. I recall there was a study done that said that ingesting more than 100g a day of sugar really depresses one's immune system. So, loading up on orange juice/booze while you're sick isn't really helping matters...

Day 6

This nasty crap decided to go from achy with swollen tonsils to that dry hacking cough with upper congestion.

Im still ont he cocktail of different meds, attacking from all sides, but I had to go all out and pull out Grandma's secret, that wicked heated Camphorated Oil.

Since the .fed decided this dangerous product can no longer be sold, I try and use what few prescious ounces of it I have for the worst offenders. I think this is the time to use just a little.

Sorry, you're Army, a cold water enema without the lemon twist.

If you have a URI then you should get antibiotics.

Drink a bunch of water, turn up the heat and cover yourself with a bunch of blankets.

Start laughing in an evil maniacal manner and say, " If you can't stand the heat, then get the hell
out of my body"

The flu gets scared shitless when you do this and seeks out some other chump.

True story

Actually, if you can avoid taking any pain meds do so, the fever is your body fighting off the infection.  If you have the flu and have to work, take enough to take the edge off the aches.  Also, take as much Vit. C as you can until you get the trots, then cut back by one or two pills. Too much C will give you trots.
