With all this peace going around, who needs war?

PESHAWAR, Pakistan - A Pakistani cleric announced Friday a $1 million bounty for killing a cartoonist who drew Prophet Muhammad, as thousands joined street protests and Denmark temporarily closed its embassy and advised its citizens to leave the country.

Police confined the former leader of an Islamic militant group to his home to prevent him from addressing supporters over the cartoons, amid fears he could incite violence, after riots this week killed five people.

Security forces were out in strength, particularly around government offices and Western businesses, as Muslims streamed onto the streets after Friday prayers. More than 200 people were detained, but most gatherings were peaceful.

In neighboring India, police used batons and tear gas to disperse thousands of angry worshippers who rioted in the southern city of Hyderabad. They burned Danish flags, pelted police with stones, and looted shops. Hundreds more protested in Bangladesh.

In the northwestern Pakistan city of Peshawar, prayer leader Mohammed Yousaf Qureshi announced the bounty for killing a cartoonist to about 1,000 people outside the Mohabat Khan mosque.

Qureshi said the mosque and his religious school would give $25,000 and a car, while a local jewelers' association would give another $1 million. No representative of the association was available to confirm it had made the offer.

"This is a unanimous decision by all imams (prayer leaders) of Islam that whoever insults the prophet deserves to be killed and whoever will take this insulting man to his end, will get this prize," Qureshi said.

That'll cost you half a million bucks. A 500lb bomb will only set you back $250. Drop 2000 of those for the same price. I'm sure the B52 crews would enjoy it

try 1.5 million per Tomahawk

so with 500lb iron bombs, you could drop 6000 of them for that price.  Anything less simply isint enough overkill.

Really?

Well then, it must be the Muslim equivalant of the Pope, right?

What's that you say?

That no one can really "speak" for Muslims?

I've been hear A LOT in the media about the hypocrisy of using violence to "prove" that Islam is a peaceful religion.  It's really been highlighted in all the major papers and discussed ad nauseam on the major news networks.

Oh, wait, no it hasn't.  Not even a word.  The absolutely most amazing thing is how the news folks can report on the "protests" but never mention this issue.

Yet we spend days on Cheney.  Ridiculous.

No one need speak for mooslims, their actions speak for themselves........Or, in some instances, their lac of inactions. Funny, I don't see them protesting against the murder of innocents, the beheading of innocents, the stoning of women, the burning of buildings, and every other barbaric atrocity commited by Bin Laden, Al Qaeda and their ilk in the name of their precious 'Religion of Peace."

In the interim, stop apologizing for these animals, open your eyes, and see the abomination that is the RoP.....

I think the point is...for a religion who's talking heads keep trying to make excuses for, and porttry themselves as the RoP.....they sure have a way of coming out and proving the opposite.

And I'll drum up my mantra....The National Socialist party and the Imperial Japanese Government didn't speak for the entire German or Japanese population in WWII, but they were still recognized as enemies....

I wouldnt have such a problem with the 'good' muslims if they would come out in some united way and condemn this shit. We keep hearing about how these extremists dont represent the good muslims. Well, there are entire countries founded in Islamic law....surely those nations represent the good that Islam promotes....why are they tolerating the widespread chaos over this stupid cartoon? Maybe its because it serves thier interests when muslims rise up in number against Christians? I dont know, just thinking out loud.

If the outlaw extremists are the minority giving the good muslims the bad name, exactly where are all these good muslims? They seem awfully camera shy to me. I havent seen many on the news condemning the acts of the so called "hijackers of their religion". What I do hear is a bunch of appologists attempting to justify why muslims are taking this so seriously. How anyone can justify murder in response to being upset by a drawing baffles my mind. You can show me a photoshop of Jesus wearing a ballgag.....Im not going to kill you for it. If Jesus can forgive you I suppose I can try. Am I the only one that thinks the world has gone mad? WTF is wrong with people when there is debate over whether or not murder and riots are acceptable forms of protest?

This whole thing is going to get worse.

Just for shits and grins...what do you think would happen if, say, the Pope did come out and say the Vatican would offer a million $$$ for the head of anyone who spoke bad of Jesus?

I think there would be world wide uproar, the press would have a field day, you wouldn't be able to get away from the story, the Pope would probably succumb to tremendous worldwide pressure to apologize and step down, the church would be in shambles.

Yet the RoP does the exact same thing, and are basically given a free pass...Hmmm, I wonder why the double standard?

Well there is a difference in that there is no Pope like figure in Islam. On the other hand I agree with your position. When Pat Robertson made his dumbass comments about Hugo Chavez there was an uproar and he was "forced" to backtrack on his comments.

But deep down I think even the muslim apologists except this sort of sub civilised, murderous behaviour from your average cuddly imam. The difference is many Westerners think that somehow the evil West forced the Islamfacists to do it and must make amends.

I only think its a double standard if both parties are expected to live up to the standard.
There are expectations of civility that I think most of us recognise. I dont know that the teachings of Islam are bound by those same expectations.

I am not Catholic but I consider the Pope to be a figure among world leaders, albeit a spiritual leader. I cant name a single person of muslim faith with that same charge in our society.
For that matter, I cant even identify a single prominent muslim. For a religion that supposedly spans 1.5 billion people, surely they must have a leader that can step up to the podium and offer his views on the current state of affairs? Sadly, I think most of the west, and most the membership on this site, sees Bin Laden as the leader of Islam. If he isnt, I think that the real leader should stand up and be accounted for...its long overdue.

Certainly there have been wars and violence done by and on behalf of various sects of Christianity, but there have been reformations since to avoid that in the future, and there is worldwide rejection of it when nominally Christian movements or sects perpetrate violence in the name of God.

There is also the fact that while Christanity has been used to justify war and violence in the past, Jesus and the founders of Christianity were not violent warmongering savages. Mohammed on the other hand spread his death cult from day one through the slaughter of those who refused to join him with one os his fetishes being beaheadings. The current day followers of his cult are just following his lead.
