I will be going snowboarding in March and am considering purchasing some two way radios, so our group can split up.  Has anyone ever used these before while skiing/snowboarding?  Do the mountains affect the reception?  Here are a few i have been looking at.  Any suggestions?

We use Motorollas for skiing and hunting.  No problem with reception at all.  They work great.

Motorola or Uniden, I've never had anything good from Midland

If you want something that is scalable beyond those, try the Icom FRS/GMRS IC F21.  These are excellent radios and you can upgrade the antennas and batteries if you need it.  All of these radios will be affected by line of sight, but the Icoms have more power and the option to screw on a longer "whip" antenna that will increase the range.

I have used these radios in canyon country in west Texas and they did great.  I would estimate they had TRUE line of sight range of 5-7 miles and obstructed range of about 1-2 miles.

They are about $150.00 a piece and really easy to use, plus they can be synched with everyone else's FRS radio.
