Lawmaker says he pulled gun on threatening man

ATLANTIC, Iowa A western Iowa lawmaker says he was forced to draw a gun against a man who threatened his life.

Clel Baudler, a Republican representative from Greenfield, says he was being followed by a man who had previously threatened him on the phone. The man, David Whetstone, had allegedly cornered Baudler in his car on Saturday and stuck his head in the window when Baudler hit Whetstone in the face with the gun.

Whetstone pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after the incident.

Baudler says Whetstone was angry because he wouldn't act on Whetstone's complaint that he was abused by officers at the Guthrie County Jail in 1995.

The lawmaker, a retired state trooper, is licensed to carry a gun.
