Keep it one sentance long, I don't want to give them a speech, just an answer.

I have no idea. I normally say, "Just in case I need one"

Why does it matter why I carry a gun when you are speaking to your family?

Because if I am somwhere and someone needs to be shot I dont want to have to call 911 on my cellphone and wait 5-10mins for a policeman to arrive.

Usually they either laugh or look at me like I'm insane. Either way they stop talking to me which is exactly what I want.

I only wish I could carry.

But if I could, my response would be something like:

If someone threatened your loved ones with deadly force,
would you question them to death, or shoot them?

It is funny how people change their tunes when you pose a situation where
they realize the gun might not be only for your own protection.

I go on to explain that a guy I worked with (Jason Schmalenberger) was stabbed to death for no real reason. Had he been carrying he would be alive today.Jason's Story

The woman and children are alone because he was unarmed.
