How do you answer that?

Keep it one sentance long, I don't want to give them a speech, just an answer.

I have no idea. I normally say, "Just in case I need one"

Well shit, that'd make me look kind of stupid.

Thanks for your contribution.

Why does it matter why I carry a gun when you are speaking to your family?

I carry it for many reasons - personal protection.  Protect my family.  It's a civic duty.   Take your pic

"Just in case."

Typical response "In case of what?"

"Zombies"

Usually they either laugh or look at me like I'm insane.  Either way they stop talking to me which is exactly what I want.

I only wish I could carry.

But if I could, my response would be something like:

If someone threatened your loved ones with deadly force,
would you question them to death, or shoot them?

It is funny how people change their tunes when you pose a situation where
they realize the gun might not be only for your own protection.

I reply  "Why do you have a spare tire in your car??? Are you expecting a flat today?"

I answer with a question. "Why do you carry a spare tire? I havent used one in years, but you just might need one." Damnit Ed thats my line!

I go on to explain that a guy I worked with (Jason Schmalenberger) was stabbed to death for no real reason. Had he been carrying he would be alive today.Jason's Story

Since I live in Illinois, I would answer 'I'm not carrying a gun. It's illegal'.

If I could carry a gun, my answer would be 'Because I can'.
