Fantastic movie, the book was better.
In the book he whipped up on the deputies and laid waste to the town. " They drew first blood, not me!"

Yes and the reason Michael Douglas abandoned the part of Trautman at the last minute was because Stallone wanted Rambo to live. I always thought Stallone was kind of a numbnuts, but it appears he was deeply involved in changing the book for film and all of his changes and ideas he had turned out to be correct in the end. Michael Douglas sounds like a real jerkoff. He wanted Rambo to die, not because the book was written that way, but because the character just had to die for what he did. No good guy would ever use violence to solve a problem, would he? |

Kirk Douglas, IIRC. Kirk was supposed to play Trautman, but Crenna was brought in when he bailed. Good move. Crenna was great. My six year-old daughter spent the afternoon walking up to me and saying, "God didn't create Rambo. I did."

RAMBO II was the movie that drove a few guys in my unit to go out and buy big honkin knives. One guy bought a Buck Master (the big silver one with grappling hooks on the handle  ).We told him that we weren't going back to get it if he lost it while on patrol. He did and kept whining when we wouldn't go back 6k along our route to look for it. |

For you true fans out there (and you know who you are), get yourself a copy of the First Blood "Ultimate Edition" DVD. It has an extra commentary by S. Stallone that is pure gold. Very funny guy, and he has an explanation and anecdote for every scene. Doesn't pull any punches, either, when talking about who he didn't like in the cast and crew. And for you alternate ending junkies, your dream has come true: they shot the version where Rambo dies at the end, and it's included. I was at Ft. Bragg when this movie played to a full-house of screaming paratroopers every night at the Alvin York Theater for a month. Guess who's side we were on? |

POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR ROCKY 6 ... DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU ACTUALLY INTEND TO SEE THIS MOVIE. Get this -- according to the local sports AM channel, he runs up the stairs carrying a dog. There was no indication whether the dog had been shot by Philadelphia police or not. (j/k, LEs) I guess he really wanted to maximize the tear-jerker effect for his final run up the stairs. I doubt this will be as poignant as the scenes between Berenger and Zip in Last of the Dogmen, but that's Stallone for ya. Also, Stallone shot the scene during Sunday's snowstorm in Philly, again for the added dramatic effect. I wonder if he knew that we were scheduled for 12" snow this week. Last, they shot film of local Philly people doing the run up the stairs. These montages are to be used in the credits/intro to the film. The Phillie Phanatic also got involved somehow. PS there's no way I'm paying money to see Rocky 6 in the theater. It's a rental (at best). |
