Besides being a stupid film, it contained two disturbing (or what could be defined as disturbing) quotes.

A.  Burt Reynolds is buying a stolen gun off the street from an illegal gun dealer.  Reynolds says "thank you" after he is handed the hot gun.  The dealer says, "Don't thank me...thank the Republicans."

B.  A cop at a crime scene is looking at an empty shell casing, and says, "Yup, 9mm hollowpoint cop killers...."

I was watching one of those "Cops" type shows and these cops from Jersey stopped a guy for possesing a firearm.  Was a small revolver with hollow point bullets.  Several times the cops referred to the hollow points as cop killers and that they would go right through a bullet proof vest.  Idiots.  And these were real on the street cops.  At least you can expect it from a liberal screenwriter.

Even though the delectable, delicious, mouth-watering, wanna-eat-Kraft-macaroni-and-cheese-off-her-rock-hard-belly Carrie-Anne Moss is in it, I make it a practice to stay far, far away from anything involving Richard Dreyfuss.

Jarhead out.

Besides the anti gun rhetoric, this movie was just ANNOYINGLY STUPID.

About three weeks ago there was a replay of a school shooting session on a cop oriented show where the shooter used a "22 magnum" rifle and the next scene the "investigators" are picking up small caliber centerfire rifle shell casings off the street! They looked like .223 casings but couldn't be sure (too far away).

    This film was mentioned
in my Feb 2001 American Legion magazine.

    The commentary section titled
Politicians vs. Hollywood Heavyweights
by Micheal Medved
dedicated a small segment to "The Crew"

    "Political Predjudices.
More of Hollywoods self-destructive bigotry turns up in the commedy "The Crew," starring
Richard Dreyfuss and Burt Reynolds.
The two veteran actors play aging
mobsters who retire to Florida with their friends but try to recapture youth
and vitality with one last daring caper.
To facilitate the job, they buy black market weapons from a sleazy gun dealer.
After concluding the transaction, Dreyfuss'
character says a quick thanks, to which the
firearms merchant defiantly replies, "Hey, don't
thank me. Thank the Republicans!"
The line stands out as the only political reference of any kind in the entire movie.
It offers no explanation of how new gun control legislation, presumably blocked by those Republican rascals, would magically stop a
transaction that the movie accurately portrays as already illegal."

"....Such blatant political
messages turn up in film after film,
and always from same predictable,
liberal point of view."
