Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley and Delegate Neil Quinter announce their attack on your Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Yesterday in Annapolis, a press conference was held announcing the introduction of House Bill 1367, the Maryland Assault Weapons Ban of 2006, sponsored by Delegate Neil Quinter (D-13) of Howard County. Headlining the press conference was Baltimore Mayor, and gubernatorial hopeful, Martin O'Malley (D). Despite acknowledging that so-called "assault weapons" are used in only a small fraction of crimes, Delegate Quinter and Mayor O'Malley made it clear that they stand ready to strip you of your right to own these legal firearms, no doubt the first step to further eroding your Second Amendment rights. Mayor O'Malley and Delegate Quinter need to hear from you as soon as possible. Tell Mayor O'Malley that the people of Maryland do not support his efforts to play politics with the rights of law-abiding gun owners, who are the only ones who will be affected by this proposed legislation. Mayor O'Malley can be reached at (410) 396-3835. Delegate Quinter can be reached at (410) 841-3246. Be sure to tell him that you strongly oppose his repeated attacks on the Second Amendment. Please make these important calls today and let your voice be heard. |

I have been in Maryland since 1994. Imagine my astonishment when a Republican governor was elected. His election, and the threat of the veto, is the only reason there has not been an AWB already. However, there is an election this year and I just know that O'Malley or Duncan will win. They are two of the most liberal politicians on the planet. I couldn't stomache the thought.
How did I respond? I chose to flee. My wife and I are having a house built in WV and it should be completed in June. I encourage all of you Marylanders who value freedom to do the same if at all possible. Governor Ehrlich was the only thing standing between you and a liberal state government that seems to be competing with California on its leftist wants. |

The democraps kooks are out in force, been following this via Google News, here's some classic lines:

Great, the Democrats are going to start playing their Iraq-vet cards before we do. Unfortunately most of the Republican Iraq vets I know keep reenlisting and are therefore unavailable for political office.

@!#!$#@%#$%@$@$@$#!%$#^%#@$@$@$#%. Thats about all I can say to this. I am planning on sending a bunch of letters and making a bunch of phone calls. Everyone should do the same thing. If we can keep their phone busy the entire day I think they will get the idea.

I think we need to get all are money together and buy a State of are own.
we are having the same problem in The Peoples Republic of Illinois. The dishonorable mayor of Illinois Richard J Daley and his puppet governor Rod Blagoivich are attempting the same thing. I only hope that when the troops return from Iraq they can stop over here and oust this represssive regime before it's to late.

Exactly, precisely correct. |

To the folks that think Florida is immune, consider this.
Northern influx is bringing in anti-gun thinking. More every day! Central and South American's tend to think and vote along Democrat lines and there are more of these folks every day. Cubans used to vote Republican. The newer generation of Cuban-Americans are turning out to be misguided democrats and bleeding heart liberals. Trust me I know many, many of these types. It's just a matter of time. We must fight anti-gun philosophies where ever and when ever it pops up. Given time it will come to you unless everyone remains vigilant and supportive of all gun owners regardless of what state they are in or how far away they may be. Just my .02 cents |
Unfortunately, this is NOT just a Maryland problem. The more these things are passed under our noses, the easier it will be for action to occur at the federal level.
You can bet "when" the democracts win another presidential election......an assault weapons BAN will not be long behind. It is a bone that this party can use to satisfy their extreme liberal wing........and except for the NRA.....will get little rsistance from the average Joe. This must change......as many have said here.......excepting "grandfather clauses" is just taking a giant step down that "slippery Slope". JF. |

MARYLAND has always been bad on firearms no open carry, no concealed carry , can't carry a handgun in your car ,, can't have loaded rifles or shotguns in your car, most of the handguns are banned
I moved away from maryland feb 23 1996 it was the best damn thing i ever did and it wasn't because of the gun laws . It's because maryland just flat out sucks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 75 degrees here today i'll be out shooting and riding quads.. I't's a total life change !!! Lifes short are you really living where you want to be or do you just stay there because it's just easier to stay ? |

OK, that does it. I've been out of state between college and the military for 15 years now, and I've always left my driver's license address as Mom and Dad's place in MDas a convenience issue. F*** Maryland, I'm changing over my driver's license when I get out of Iraq this time.
+1 Well, at least the majority of my family. |
BTT - this is TOO important to the entire USA to let it lapse w/o action by everyone.
Just of curiousity, how often do bills like this grandfather the weapons already in circulation by citizens?
Do NOT fall for the "grandfather" clause... this is a trick used in all sorts of things... zoning in particular.
Grandfather clauses are added to reduce resisitance from people who would otherwise be affected by a new law. In fact, in the case of some business activity, they get the present operators to sign on because it prevents new competition from coming into the market. Remember how many guys that were worried that thier "preban AW's" would lose value if the ban ended? The "grandfather clause" is intended to soften you up for the kill. RESIST allowing this to be added. What they will do is say, "OK, you guys that already have these guns, you can keep them, you just have to register them." Then a few years later they will "tighten" the law, and now they have a list of owners. It is time to say, "If you think you are tough enough, bring it on." |
I'm going to watch and support MD.
Illinois has one and there is not GF clause. Just mere posession makes you a criminal. These State AWBans are not to be taken lightly. |
I was being sarcastic, Maryland is right above WV, I am well aware of the dangers that lay ahead. I’m curious as well, if an “assault weapons” ban is passed will citizens be required by law to turn in their weapons or will they be grand fathered in? |
Yeah that's understandable. I was just laughing at how ridiculous people are with the stupid laws. Basically infringing on our rights. |
Aren't house bills required to pass through the senate as well? My uncle works in Annapolis and he says a bill like this comes up every year. Last year it was titled something like "Blah blah crime prevention bill"
Don't be foolish, as a fellow gun owner/enthusiast you have everything to worry about. This bill getting passed anywhere is a threat to your and everyone else's rights in the entire country. If you think it can't step over into other states such a West Virginia then you need to wake up |
Gun owners will always be welcome in AZ... Especially since it will curb the effect of the socialist PRK refugees...

I strongly suggest you read this quote and think about it for a long while or at least until you understand its meaning in the context of 2nd Amendment rights.

+1 That's a great quote and it shows you where that kind of attitude gets you. |

I moved out of New Jersey over a decade ago to get away from these ridiculous gun laws. Ever since I moved to MD the same silly laws have overtaken the state. With this being an election year, I'm sure it will only get worse. If the Dems get a power hold again we're screwed. Time to call/write/email the reps again. I love getting the generic form letter back from my reps stating how the laws will "protect" me. Baltimore city has a shooting or two every day, but I never hear how the perps are doing hard time. As a matter of fact they just gave a double murderer a nice stay of execution.
Sorry for respondingto this in the AR forum, but I had to vent. |

With all the Cubans down here who suffered through the Castro regime and it's gun grabbing communist government, I seriously doubt there will ever be a gun ban of any sort. They simply won't have the support of the people for any potential anti-gun legislation which even mildly reminds them of days gone by in Cuba. A large majority of the Cuban-American population in Miami-Dade County vote Republican and are very conservative. Broward County is an entirely different story. Ken Jenne, the Boss of Broward Sheriffs Office, is a major liberal gun grabbing cocksucker. You might remember him from the 2004 CNN Live AWB report where he deliberately misled an unknowing and uneducated reporter into thinking a FA AK47 was covered under the AWB. This was a live report with a very misleading live firearms demonstration in which concrete blocks were destroyed for the horror of CNN sheeple. Keep fighting boys. They can't win unless we ALL give up! HS1 HS1 HS1 |

Haha what a joke. I'm glad Florida doesn't care about a damn thing.
Don't be so sure about that. South FL is getting way too liberal for my tastes. All the new housing and influx of people from up North seems to be shifting the politics somewhat. Gotta keep up the fight...take a liberal shooting and convert them |
This comes out every year, we must show up to voice our displeasure it's the only way to stop it - otherwise it WILL get through.
OK NOW they have pissed me off - and I LIVE IN VIRGINIA!!!!!!!!!!! Check this one out:
"Designating specified firearms as assault weapons; prohibiting with specified exceptions a person from transporting an assault weapon into the State or possessing, selling, offering to sell, transferring, or receiving an assault weapon; requiring the Handgun Roster Board to compile and maintain a roster of prohibited assault weapons; etc. " -that is from the synopsis of the bill at link above. I don't live there but I do shoot there often and now they are trying to restrict what I can & cannot take into the state for the day?!?!?! Knowing Maryland demo-rats (and I grew & in that state) the "specified exceptions" will ONLY be the Federal pass-through laws that they are OBLIGATED to honor. Wanna bet there is NO exception for PA, VA or any other state to shoot a match in MD?? True, they have quietly introduced a bill every year. HOWEVER, they have NEVER done it with the Mayor and Candidate for Governor, O'Malley. Wanna bet that they are fishing to make the republican governor, Ehrlic, try to oppose such a ban & make him look bad? The O'Malley people could care less about public safety; look how bad crime is in Baltimore - and did they follow NYC's policing model? Of course not. They only want political power at any cost. This is big news & its important to act. |
Yeah, you (M4A1OwnsYou) maybe laughing now. Governor Blowjobavich in Illinois is trying to push AWB laws to pass here. Once this crap starts it could spread to the other states like a brush fire. We need to keep fighting, and voice our opposition to these gun grabbing laws. Get involved, and write / call your legislatures. 4X4SC |

Good point. Notice all the goodies at the SHOT Show? Do you think that there will be any of those produced in the future when MOST of the states have passed their own AWBs and there is NO MARKET left besides your little state?
Ask a factory rep sometime if the California firearms market matters to them. You might be surprised. And California seems to get a new ban of some type every year. What happens out of state will affect you eventually. Get involved. |
Didn't this issue help Ehrlic to win the election last time?
They still haven't learned. We have got to do something about the general assembly. |
I strongly suggest you read this quote and think about it for a long while or at least until you understand its meaning in the context of 2nd Amendment rights.

I hate this state. I just started getting some nice additions to my collection and with all of the great things potentially coming out (SCAR, FS2000, Sig 556), i'm furious

What do I say when I call those 2 numbers? Also, please let me know of everything I can do to stop this tyranny. Everyone in MD needs to step up and take action against this oppression. If someone could get together a letter that we can send to congressmen or whomever and pass around to fellow Maryland gun owners that would be great. Any information, numbers, addresses, and instructions to help defend our 2nd amendment rights should be posted in here, the hometown fourm, Maryland AR-15, and any other place to get the word out to Maryland gun owners. I look forward to doing whatever it takes to defend mine and fellow Marylanders rights. |
I placed a call to both offices voicing my opposition to the proposed bill.
I would hope everyone else would do the same. It takes all of 90 seconds to reach both offices. If he receives enough messages saying that people dont support the bill then he will not likely vote for something that will not get him reelected. James |
Welcome to the Cali club, after they get rid of your scary guns, then they can require extra safety features on guns that aren't quite as scary and ban those terrorist .50 cal rifles that will shoot down planes too!!
Do something about this now, because it certainly won't ever stop, trust us, we know. |
I just asked to leave a message for the Mayor and Delegate. I basically said that I didnt support the bill or those politicians who did support it. James |

Sorry to hear this. Here in IL we have our own AWB in the works, compliments of out loony governer and Chicago's mayor, Daley.

Don't fall for a "grandfathering" clause; look what happened in Washington, DC (suuuuure - handguns are legal - so long as they were registered with us prior to 1978!). Virtually NO civilian owned handguns exist in D.C. (lawfully anyway). California: how's it working out for you guys? NJ and NY? Same deal.
Grandfathering is a scam. This bill has to be killed - as in dead, kaput, deceased. Don't let any Representative try to weasel out of it by saying that they fought for "grandfathering". The issue of our freedom is not subject to compromise. |
