McCain Moves To Punish The American People And Grassroots Groups For Congress' New Round Of Controversy
Gun Owners of America 8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102 Springfield, VA 22151 (703)321-8585 Tuesday, February 7, 2006 Sen. John McCain is at it again. The senior senator from Arizona has worked hard to earn an F-rating from Gun Owners of America. Once a presidential contender, Sen. McCain became the poster boy for the misnamed Americans for Gun Safety (AGS) several years ago and has sponsored several anti-gun bills and amendments. With such a record lurking in his closet, do you think Sen. McCain likes it when groups like Gun Owners of America point out his anti-gun antics? Of course not. So in 2002, Sen. McCain teamed up with anti-gun Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) to squelch the First Amendment rights of gun owners and other Americans. These two men successfully pushed the Incumbent Protection Act into law -- an act that stifles the ability of organizations like GOA to criticize elected officials before an election. This suits Sen. McCain just fine since he knows the media is going to give him a free ride in his upcoming bid for president in 2008. One can expect the mainstream media to ignore the big government tendencies of candidates like McCain, which is why it's imperative for watchdog organizations like Gun Owners of America to be able to freely communicate with the American people. Not content with the limitations in the Incumbent Protection Act, Sen. McCain has struck again. In an effort to reap political advantage from the current controversies in Congress, McCain has now introduced S. 2128 -- the so-called Lobbying Transparency and Accountability Act. In this bill, McCain targets his wrath on groups like GOA -- requiring them to register their "grassroots" communications with their members and to file twice as many frivolous reports. Sen. McCain would rather shine the spotlight on us and YOU, rather than shine the spotlight on himself -- remember, he was one of the original Keating Five senators and was the ONLY Republican in the Keating Five "team." Sen. McCain might try to dismiss the actions he took on behalf of one of his biggest contributors, Charles Keating, but as author Mark Levin notes, "In John McCain's America, any politician who accepts a large contribution or gift from a donor, and then takes steps consistent with the donor's interests -- even though there is no legal quid pro quo -- is corrupt. Well, then, by his own standard, McCain is corrupt." Once the Chief of Staff to the Attorney General in the Reagan administration, Mark Levin is now a contributing editor for National Review Online. He is also a talk show host and the head of the prestigious Landmark Legal Foundation in Washington, DC. Levin has never been accused of pulling punches, and his discussions over McCain's role in the Keating Five are no exception. "McCain was the only Republican implicated in the Keating Five scandal," Levin points out, "yet today he lectures his party and his president about 'the corrupting influence' of money in politics. He rails against the so-called 'wealthy special interests' and their ability to buy access to elected officials, yet this is precisely what the Keating Five scandal was all about. And, of course, under McCain's current standard, a politician who takes a principled position that may benefit a donor is corrupt, even if no law has been violated. "The John McCain of old should be thankful that his political fate wasn't determined by John McCain the reformer," Levin concludes. ACTION: Contact your senators and ask them to oppose S. 2128, John McCain's bill to scapegoat grassroots groups for his own moral shortcomings. |

He's a tool. Do you think that the North Vietnamese only captured good guys and conservatives? The military accepts liberal douchewads as well as conservatives too. Just because McCain was a POW doesn't make him the most worthy leader of the republican party

This Guy is a Arizona senator ? W.T.F. ? , I WONDER HYPOTHETICALLY -if he were to become president - would he stab his "new buddies" in the commie news media -in the back -- the way he has AZ. gun owners ? -- by reverting back to a Republican-- ends justify means ?
+1 Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service, but how about you retire instead of leading the charge to steal my money and shit on my rights, which you so ironically fought to secure. |
He is not half the man his dad was,but so goes it most of us are not either!!
But thanks to both for thier service to this Country!! (past tence) Bob |
Not until he gets past Mark Warner. |
John McCain served his country honorably and his sacrifice was enormous. Jimmy Carter was a nuclear submariner, who also served his country honorably. Both have become liberal media whores, and it's best for America if the former never becomes President, while America would have done much better if the latter never had.

McCain is doing more damage to the constitution than the Clinton's ever dreamed of. McCain-Feingold is one of the worst attrocities ever to come from congress. He was a hero 30 years ago. Today he is a power hungry politician.

This has been posted before last week but no harm in posting it again. I appreciate McCains service but he has become a media whore. I also dont trust him at all when it comes to our firearms rights. |
I'm pretty politically aware and I've never heard of the guy. I hate McCain but it's between him aND giggliany (another rino) and McCain will beat Goolie. Hillary is unelectable but the dems will nominate her anyway and the Manchurian candidate will beat her. Ten bucks. |

Will the good people of AZ please rid us of this fuckstick... purdy please.
I hadn't heard of McCain referred to in this fashion. It's an apt comparision. |

If McCain runs it will be the first election I have not voted in since I was 18.
I'm a 19 year old college student. I may not agree with all of McCain's view - but I think someone in my position owes a tremendous amount of respect to someone in his position.
I do not respect someone for what they did 30 years ago. I respect someone for how they live their life on a consistant day to day basis. Even a child molester might have had "his day in the sun" 30 years ago. It does not change what they are now. McCain does not deserve my respect and would never get my vote. It is very easy to see that he does not respect the foundations on which this Country was created. F him and his little dog "campaign reform" too!!!!
You will. |

McCain doesn't think much of EITHER your 1st OR 2nd Amendment Rights!
If the GOP selects that assbag we are seriously up shit creek. |
kind of a dumb idea, at least vote 3rd party |
Nobody cares what the GOA says anyway.
politically invisible organization |
yep... he'll be the democrat nominee in 2008. And if it's him or McCain, he'll get my vote. |
Let me enlighten your young mind...respect is EARNED...not just given. McCain may earned the respect of his buddies during their time as prisoners of war, however he as NOT earned the respect of the American public. He as done more damage to the Constitution that most Democrats. You may not agree with some of his views, but you have to look at his overall damage while he's been in office. I only wonder how he's keeps getting elected in Arizona? Are there that many liberals in Arizona? Arizona is starting to sound like Michigan. |
Yup, same here. |

Damn , that was good --------- |
There were 766 Vietnam POWs. 114 died in captivity. I deeply respect their sacrifice, and we can never repay them.
Of the 766 perhaps none of them should be U. S. Senators based solely on their captivity. If some should, McCain is at the very bottom of the list. Just like Murtha should not be a congressman based on his service. |
Dr. Rice will be president if we're fortunate enough to get her to run. McCain ?? Mostly a liberal anit-gunner............a child of privilege.....daddy was a full Admiral as I recall. 5sub |
Never heard of him and you say you follow politics?? OMG!!! That's all that needs to be said about that...... |
McCain is reported by POWs to have given away secrets in return for treatment of the injuries he suffered when shot down. MaCain also said he gave up info when tortured. If true, he betrayed the U.S.
That's the cutest reply I've seen all week. Mind if I wipe my ass with it? |
Respect him all you like, but the guy is a commie douche. |
Funny you mention that... It's because of all the retirees from Michigan, and Minnesota, and other Midwest shitholes. |
McCain is a liberal.
He's only a conservitive when he's trying to con the right into thinking that he's that way. McCain can slither away now. Anytime he's ready. He may as well become a (D)... |
Mark Warner did a damn good job in Virginia as a moderate Democrat. I'd take him over any other Democrat and almost all Republicans. What, pray tell, as Condoleeza Rice done to show she can perform as President? She and her boss have already let Rumsfeld have the military AND foreign policy. |
He may have, and he is a self-serving, liberal media whore, but I'll never be able to judge him or any other POW that gave up anything after 5 or 6 years of torture. I'm sure we can't even begin to imagine what that was like. |
Tragically, Dr. Rice is TOTALLY un-electable now. She may have been a few months ago, but being an insider in this administration is catastrophic to future political plans. You know HOW EASY it would be to campaign against her? I also think the Rice problem is the same as the Powell problem, both have too much self-respect to wallow in that shit. shooter |

Benedict Arnold also was a war hero before he sold out to the forces who wanted to destroy our freedoms. Both he and the aforementioned pol deserve the gallows.
Fuck McCain. If it comes down to McCain vs. Warner I will vote third party. Warner is a wolf is sheeps clothes.
Keep in mind fellas the election is a long, longways off. I seriously doubt the Republican base will rally around McCain since he has allienated most of them along the way. |
What's his military service or POW status got to do with judging him for his performance as a politician? If he wants to run for "Best Vietnam POW" then I'll do my best to judge his performance there and vote for him. But he's not running for that, he's running for President and I'll damn well judge him on his liberal votiing record, the number of Democrats he's had his arm around smiling and the number of dumbass things he's said to the media to appeal to liberal and the so called "middle of the road" voters. And in that I judge him to be a liberal douche bag and won't vote for his ass as dog catcher, and I've told him so, just after I thanked him for his military service. The two can and should be dealt with seperatly! |
McCain might be a hero, but hes no friend of mine. I put him in the same catagory as Senator Inouye, a CMOH winner who lost a arm in sicily and fights daily to take your gun rights.
Exactly. McCain, Inouye, and John Glenn: all lived heroic lives in the service of their country, but once in a position of political influence, all have promoted a socialist agenda. |
I wasn't commenting on his performance as a politician, but responding to the comment that "he betrayed the U.S (after being tortured)." Apparently that wasn't clear in my response, as my sentiments on McCain are identical to your own. |
Got news for ya. EVERYONE GIVES UP INFORMATION. If you don't, then you have a pretty incompetent torturer workin' ya. And we're not talkin' about them having him for a few days or a month, we're talking about them having him for years... ------ ADD: And yes, his present political positions and motivations pretty much suck. There is plenty to be critical of, so we don't need to be gettin' on him for giving up information for the reason mentioned above. |
The problem being can a moderate/conservative Democrat become the Democratic nominee… I don’t think Bill Clinton as a little known "moderate" Governor like he was in 1992 could get the Democratic Party nomination in this environment. Mark Warner was a fairly pro-gun fiscal conservative while Governor of VA… BUT REMEMBER Al Gore was elected to the Senate for TN as a pro-gun, pro-defense, pro-life conservative Democrat, I voted for him his first run because he was supposedly more conservative that the Republican he was running against… we all know how long that lasted. |
Compared to a lot of Governors he was… Compared to TN last Republican Governor he was… but I do think he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The pro-gun smoke will disappeared if he ever gets a national office. I still have a very bad taste from my experience with Gore… he suckered the whole state the first 2 times he ran. |
