Was fiddling around in the trunk of my car today and noticed the subwoofer that I have boxed up has a light film of condensation on it.  The trunk is solid (no rust holes), so water is not getting in anywhere.

How do I eliminate condensation in the trunk?  I use a goldenrod in my gun safe, but can't see dragging an extension cord down the road with me when I'm driving.

Any suggestions?  Thanks.

It's not condensation, it's probably water leaking past the trunk lid seals. Usually up around the front corners.

Find the source of the water and eliminate it.

I checked the seals..........they are in great shape.

Take some vaseline, and put a small bead on top of the seal. shut the trunk and drive for a few days. if water is coming in it'll be noticable. Also make sure it's not coming in around the tail lights, or where the spare tire is.

I had water leaking in to the trunk on an Oldsmobile 98 that I had - from two places.  One was in the channel that holds the seal for the trunk deck lid - there was a seam there and the glue applied at the factory had flexed and cracked so water could drip slowly in.  It was also coming in from a defective rear window seal.

I didn't have a sub to worry about, so I just took out the carpeting and padding and drilled a hole in the spare tire area to let any accumulated water out.  That was after trying in vain to seal the leaks with a couple of different quality caulking compounds.

If you want to fix it, take it to a place that offers a guarantee and pay a couple hundred dollars.

On a dry day you might be able to locate the leak with a garden hose - but that will probably have to wait a few months.

That was good!!!!      No body, Toyota Corolla so no room anyway.

Isn't there something like a "big tub" of silica gel or something like that that might work?

Lose the trunk lid. If terribly bad leave blanket over anything that might get wet or try a small 12V sump
pump. Hope that helps.

We do this at work on a few machines that have seals...w/ plates that clamp flat, similar to a trunk lid.  
Give it a try.
