...a 1918 version semi auto BAR that DOESN'T cost $3k and is reliable.

I'd pay up to $1,800 for something like that. No reason why it can't be done.

So what is on your wish list?

Just sell a few of those MP5s you have and buy the real thing

As for my wish list of things I'll never be able to afford:

A REAL Sig 55x series rifle, or at least a civilian remake that isn't an AR15 wannabe.
1919A4 with hand crank
5.56 SCAR
Civilian Steyr AUG
FS2000
PS90
AICS-enhanced Remington 700
Reliable MP5 clone in 357 Sig
Steyr Scout rifle

All that adds up to about $16,000 at least

30-06.  big ugly heavy not super accurate.
step down to 308 and you have the G3, AR10, M1A and FAL.
or get a 300 WSM in AR10 that will shot circles around the BAR

Affordable G36 clones, and an affordable AUG (hopefully those pics from SHOT mean this is happening). And a Bren gun clone for, say $1,500 or less would be sweetness galore.

Ooh, and a REASONABLY PRICED MP5.

And while you're at it, a BAR in the affordability range WOULD be pretty cool.

And an AFFORDABLE (see a theme, here?) Galil.

And....

oh never mind. Just make everything.

If HK is halting German production of the G36, I'd like to see all of the machinery/molds/remaining parts come over seas so domestic civilian legal models could be marketed to us.

A 308 bolt gun that can take either M14, G3, 540, or SR25 mags reliably.

Factory production of the 6x45 round.

Wide scale adaptation of the 6.8SPC.

All bastardized pistol rails replaced with M1913 Picatinny rails. Even though not everyone has started this yet, it appears "universal" rails that need adapters and special order lights to work are becoming a thing of the past. I just wish the process would move along a little faster.

I would like to never hear the words cast or casting when related to firearms ever again. I realize they work fine for most circumstances, but some of us don't mind not taking the absolute cheapest way out.

More threaded barrels from the factory. This would save alot of money and time for those wishing to add a suppressor.

More modular grips. There's nothing like not having to worry so much about how a pistol will fit your hand.

Slow down on the DAO trend. There's alot of pistols that look promising that I won't be buying due to being DAO. I want a highly functional auto pistol, not a revolver.

Quit thinking that trigger safeties are safeties at all. An accidental trigger pull is still a trigger pull and only a real safety will prevent problems caused by accidents or carelessness.

Do away with the plastic floorplates already. Why have a drop free mag that you can't drop.

An SCAR in .45 ACP (9mm would be nice also) to go with the 5.56 and 7.62 versions.

And/or someone to copy the LaFrance .45acp AR.  Or a .45 UMP type with affordable mags.

Long handguard ("recce style") versions of the SCAR upper receiver.

Redesigned Cav Arms lower, with improved grip and stock designs and shorter LOP.

Rifle stock designs with a longer buttplate... kinda like the G36 stock.

Pistol designs with attention to lower bore axis, besides the Glocks.

Rebirth of the Colt MARS system concept.  AR platform via the MGI interchangable magwell receiver, or the SCAR platform both look viable.  Possibly even develop a higher performance cartridge using the 6.8 case as a parent rather than the 5.56 case.

More affordable good performance night vision.  As good as CCD and CMOS sensors are getting, I hope someone is pursuing development in that direction as well.

Fal mags... yeah, a good 308 precision bolt rifle that takes an easily available detachable magazine.

Not necessarily a "please make this" request, more of a "please import this" kind of request.

MP-448 'Skyph' pistol (Russia)

Type: Double Action
Calibers: 9x18 Makarov
Weight unloaded: 590 g
Length: 162 mm
Barrel length: 94 mm
Capacity: 12 rounds

The MP-448 'Skyph' pistol has been developed at Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (IzhMech, also known under the trademark "Baikal") during late 1990s, as an enhanced version of the famous Makarov PM pistol, which is also manufactured by IzhMash. The MP-448 'Skyph' pistol is offered for export sales and for local authorities.

The MP-448 'Skyph' pistol is a blowback operated, semiautomatic pistol with polymer frame. The double action trigger with external hammer and slide-mounted safety-decocker is similar in design to Makarov PM pistol. The disassembly procedure for MP-448, however, is different as the trigger guard is integral to the frame, and there's a separate disassembly lever at the left side of the frame, above the trigger. The magazine release is also different from PM, as it is made in the form of large rectangular button, located at the left side of the grip, next to trigger guard. Double-stack magazine has a polymer buttplate and contains twelve rounds of 9x18mm Makarov ammunition. The slide, while similar in design to PM pistol, has different shape and is not interchangeable with it. Sights are fixed, with the rear sight being dovetailed into the slide.
