Lots of discussion....
I'd like to see a graphical representation of where everyone stands. You are either going to buy one as it's currently offered, or you aren't. BTW, I believe that there are 3 versions being offered initially. Even if you will consider one down the road, if certain things change, this should be considered a "NO BUY" vote. |
No for me---could change at a later, I am fickle like a chick sometimes....
I want to buy a SIG 556. Not some knock off with an AR stock and some handguard from Alien.
I'm planning on getting one, don't think it is that bad, would prefer the folding stock but not a deal breaker. I like the mags, as I have plenty of AR mags already.
If I had the cash right now I would put it on this fine example of engineering.
I would accessorize it like I do the AR. And I like the name "556", like "5.56". It better not be .223 only! |
its the ghey... I wanted a SIG 55x series, not some 55x/M4 whorechild.
No buy, I want a folding stock, not another rifle thats the exact same size as an M4, uses the same stock, the same mags, etc.

+1 Sig would have been better off just doing a piston upper, if they are so keen on AR-izing the 550. I'm sure the 556 will be a top rifle, but I wanted a 550, not some goofy blend. Ah well. |
No buy
But if they fix the rail and stock, I'm in. Even if it costs more. |
They added much too much TAPCO-ish bling to it. Might as well just add a piston upper for my AR..
I think it's wonderful that SIG is releasing a new tactical semi-auto for public consumption. However, at this point, I'm not moved enough personally to spend the money. |
Wow you people are picky. Who cares what the stock is? The internals matter. I'm certain someone aftermarket will make a kit, possibly from imported sig parts, that will give it the folding stock.
How long did you bitch for one, now you got it and no one wants it? Maybe there was some sort of issue with the stocks not being able to be built in the states so instead of delaying the whole thing sig adapted it to get it in the hands of the people who demanded it? They might make a conversion for it themselves, later. |
That's just not right... |

Easy killer..... Firstly, the 556 is NOT the 550 or 551 or 552. Not really even close. Second, some of these concerns are fairly important to what "sells" rifles. |
We wanted a Sig550/1/2, you know like the type imported prior to 89'. Was that too much to ask? |
I don’t care about the looks. If it functions like a gas-piston is suppose to function and proves to be reliable then I would seriously consider buying one.
When I look around at my opinions the SIG looks pretty damn good (if they can deliver): POF - $900 for an upper that has received mixed reviews HK416 - $2000 for an upper that seems all but impossible to obtain. LEOs ‘might’ have a chance to purchase an upper but no word on us lowly citizens. XCR – Yeah right! |
We bitched for a 550, 551, and a 552s. Not some bastardized M4 hybrid. Most of us have M4s and AKs already and do fine with them. |
No way
If I move to a free state I would only get a 556 if it was KISS and looked like the basic 550. If I want an AR style rifle... I'll buy an AR but since this is promoted as a SIG 55x series gun, thats what I want to get and not some hybrid AR/SIG. |
Leitner-Wise??? |
I got money to burn so a buy, despite my dislikes. I may wait a little while to see what happens. I suspect sooner or later I'll have to buy more than one.
The LW is certainly another opinion but IIRC you're looking at $1200-$1400 just for an upper. |
So if the price of the Sig is about the same as a piston upper for an AR. I might as well buy a Sig. So that is what I will do. I like the way the Sig looks more than the AR180b. |
First I love my Sigs, all of them.......well I only like my Mosquito.
My Sig rifle is an awesome gun, and I love it. I WILL buy one, only then will I know if I will love it or not. I suspect it will be awesome and I will be happy as shit and silently gloat while all of the people here whine because it didn't look they thought it should, no matter how it performs. |
It's more than just the stock, though the 55x stock was an amazingly solid stock. Where is my 55x battle sight? Why a welded-on rail? Why the bizarre handguards? Why the First Samco-looking pistol grip? I am an unapologetic Sig fanboy, but I'll be the first to admit that Sig can make mistakes. Just look at the problems the GSR has had. And frankly, the 556 is not what most of us were envisioning when we think 'Sig 55x'. |
I really,really,really want the traditional looking 551...
I support Sig, and am glad they are trying to work with us now, but I will have to pass on the 556... |
Wiat for the flat top and quad rail "SWAT" version to be released later this year.
Needs a folding stock and offer a version in .308.
Thanks but no thanks, I'll stick to my ARs.... |
You have a piston driven M4 eh? You know, you could have bought a Sig for much less. |
No Buy! At least not until it is for sure they will not offer a 550 or something at least closer to it than the Sig AR.
No buy on that model, as shown in the photos.
The "SWAT" model - maybe. As long as I can replace the TDI/Tapco cheap shit with some quality SIG looking parts. SIG style folder, SIG style pistol grip and a rail system. Oh, last but not least - it would have to have a standard picatinny rail, not that raised shit. |
I'm buying one. But probably not with the zeal and quickness I would have if this was a 551 clone in semi. It's still a SIG inside, so I'm in. Furniture can be changed.
Its scary how many people call this a AR based Sig.
I would have thought on AR15.com of all places people might know SOMETHING about an AR15 besides thefact it takes a 5.56 round. I see I was mistaken. |
Skipping it. Where's the huge improvement over my current AR?
any news on a post ban style for us in the damn commie states?
I'll wait for the FN SCAR or ARM or whatever it'll be called. The SIG "was" a classic design..........Plus, I relly dislike the M4 stock.
