What would be your choice of cal. for a ccw gun, and why? I'll ad a poll.

45.

Why?  I can control it.  I can it my target effectivly.  It makes big fricking holes.

Buy .40 and get the drop in sig barrel later.  40s can convert to Sigs not the other way around.  Yes add a poll but less people will comment or give feedback if you do.

My first choice is 45, but between the two you listed, definitely 40.

between the two?

40

less muzzle blast and a larger round

the 357 sig is deafening.

???

My P229 came as 357SIG, but I put a Bar-Sto .40SW barrel in a year later.
Any .40SW can convert to 357SIG, as long as somebody makes the barrel.

FWIW, I'm practically done with 357SIG.
It's punchy, no doubt, but I've been reloading since early 1995 and it's been nothing but a pain in the ass.  A defective cartridge design, to be sure.  No neck, no support.

My carry gun is a STI in .38 Super with a commander sized slide. 17+1 rounds.

Mostly Ed Brown parts with Novak tritium sights. The finish is Black-T by Birdsong.

I really like the .38 Super round. You get the high capacity of a 9mm with the power of a .45acp.

Wow. STI makes an outstanding 1911. Sweet pistol!

I always wondered why it wasn't more popular here, thet're all over Mexico but you rarely see them here.

As far as the 357 Sig, short barrells don't take advantage of the round's ballistics.

I would fancy the 44 Mahum not to be confused w/ magnum ... if I could ccw.

I checked "other."  I carry either a Browning Hi Power (9mm)  or a Kahr MK9 (normal usage and areas - on my boat or if out West in the desert or mountains it's a .44 magnum for animals)

In civilian carry, my use will be essentially as a "belly gun."  I don't need big firefight scenes, or a lot of penetrating barricades:  I have an option a police officer does not - I can show the perps how fast an old guy can run.  I feel shot placement is more important than muzzle energy in such a scenario with handgun calibers.

I carry concealed a XD service in .357sig.         im 5"9"  149 lbs

I use a comp-tac C.TAC  holster.

I don't carry a weapon unless it has at shot at least 500 rounds flawlessly.

Because legally you can't have anything over 38 super in Mexico. Not even .357

Between the .357 and the .40, I'll take the .40.

Give me a .45 otherwise.

I already have a 45 in my Ballester molena and it is a great gun and 100% reliable, but I was thinking of something more compact when I don't want the full size pistol. I guess they make some good smaller size pistols in 45 too.
