Details at this time are a dealer price around $1300 and a retail price of about $1700.
Good luck Smith and Wesson.  Gee should I buy the new SIG556, FN2000 or a S&W AR15 model?  I wonder if Bushmaster and RRA are geting nervous?

I believe they'll use Troy rail systems, but that's all i can remember about it. I'd buy one if the quality is there...not to mention if there happens to be a smidgen of innovation (something inventive/creative and necessary) |

HK isn't overpriced. USPs cost about the same as a SIG, Kimber, etc. HK LE weapons are no more expensive than Colt, FN or SIG LE weapons. Which HK guns do you consider overpriced? |

Seeing as those prices are MSRP, they aren't that bad. I won't be buying one, but there's alot more expensive options out there. The $1700 model adds up pretty quick if one were to build a similar package.
Also remember that Bushmaster gets away with selling tons of Modular Carbines which use parts that are no where near the quality of Troy's. It's MSRP is actually more then the S&W. Troy MRF 10" = $275 Troy rear sight = $140 Troy front sight = $120 Low pro gas block from manufacturer unknown = About $100 Plus the chromed carrier and gas key. I welcome them to the market so long as they didn't some how mess up the quality CMT is known for. |

The various HK longarms that are (were) available to us common folk. LE prices concern me not. Look at what the SL-8 was going for when it was out.
Presuming the street price will actually be $1300.00, it has: $250.00 for the Troy FF rail system. $140.00 for the rear sight. $120.00 for the front sight. And howevermuch for the rail covers. Which leaves you with about $790.00, which is about what you would pay for a RRA or whatnot. The price is not bad at all, if people would stop for a minute and do the math. |

Looks like TangoDown's to me. Its going to be hard to sell a $1600 AR unless someone is looking for that exact setup. Most first timer's will be much better suited with,and more likely to spend $900 on a RRA. |

yep and specialty AR's such as that will typically be damn close to msrp on the gun stores shelves. i still see RRA gov. carbines with light for 2300.00 on th shelf here and they are selling faster than they can order them. |

Stop right there. USPs should not be mentioned in the same sentence as SIG, Kimber or any other quality handgun. I have great respect for HK rifles (and I own 2), however their handguns are garbage. I have had 3 HK pistols. 2 are gone and one I still have. All 3 seem to have been designed by poorly trained chimpanzees. I have also owned 3 S&W's and I currently still own one. I loved all 3. Circumstances forced me to part with my Model 59A years ago and lack of use convinced me to part with my .357 magnum revolver. I do still have my 908S and I think it is an excellent pistol. Depending on what all the S&W AR15 includes I may be willing to consider it. I have the utmost confidence in their workmanship. |

HK isn't overpriced as long as you realize that you are paying for a shitload of positive marketing to make you feel superior in your purchase of a VERY, VERY average firearm. SG |

As I recall they were about $1,200 or about the same price as a LOT of longarms like FALs, AR-15s, Robinson Arms, etc. Wasn't like it was selling for 2k or anything. |

Yes I do, I know what MSRP, actual retail, and dealer cost means The point Im trying to make is this: The only people I see buying a $1600MSRP..... $1400 retail AR are those who absolutly want a 16" carbine with a Troy rail, and front and rear flip-ups, or those with lots of dough. I truely belive that at least 75% of COMPLETE Ar15 sales are from first time buyers. After that if a person wants a second rifle odds are that theyll biuld it themselves. Of that second time buyer group, Noone is going to buy one unless its,A:a smoking deal, or B:its exactly the configuration which they want...Otherwise they'll build. First time buyers are better suited with a RRA entry tactical for $1000, 10 mags, and a case of XM193. If I sell both rifles at 20% I still sell the guy the cheaper rifle thats better suited for him. I sell AR's everyday of the week and would sell 10 RRA's/Bushmaster's per every S&W. JMHO,. YMMV....Etc...Etc...Etc.......Udog |

Ummm no, the S&W decked out rifle is suppossed to retail at $1,700. The HK rifle retailed at $1,200 or about as much as a Bushmaster. If the S&W was gonna retail at about $1,200 I wouldn't have said anything. In addition it seems the S&W isn't actually as overpriced as I thought when taking the options (which I was unaware of at time of posting) into consideration. |

I don't understand why they aren't coming out with a more entry level model as well, say standard .mil profile bbl and round handguards, FSB, etc...
BUT... if their quality is anything like EVERY single S&W I have ever handled (with the possible exception of the Sigma) I would be willing to pay a bit more for a Smith... In my experience, Smith and Wesson handguns are the absolute BEST handguns I've ever owned personally. But I haven't owned any Sigs, Glocks, or HK's... |
