and for people who live in a condo complex where broadband and DSL aren't available and dial up is all they have access to?

ETA- it's not me, but I know a team member that has exactly that situation.

Without these ubiquitous 56K warnings, a person in such a situation may risk opening a thread only to discover the photos in that thread are slow to load.  In absolute horror, he or she will then have to do one of several things: 1. press the "stop" button and then the "back" button; 2. run screaming out of the room with bleeding eyeballs or 3. commit Hari-Kari.

Those warnings help people like me, who only have dial-up. I saves me the time I'd waste clicking in and out of threads because I simply won't spend an hour looking at one thread.

I say ban people who want to ban thread titles warning me about pictures.

EDIT--I just had a better idea. I hope Phil_A_Steen moves to someplace that doesn't have cable or DSL (like we did), and can't afford satellite.

I have a pretty decent connection speed...

So I can view TONS of pics like this with zero lag time.
(56k beware)

My connection speed varies, but most of the time it's 21.6 kbps.  I have seen it get as high as 26 kbps.

I'm so far out in the sticks I can't even get regular cable much less high speed!

I sometimes get 33.6kbs speed. it's usually much less.

Actually I stay out of those threads that are tagged with a 56K warning when I surf at work to keep the sys-geeks from seeing the bandwidth spikes.

Most metropolitan cities offer wireless broandband these days. Verizon for instance. But it runs around $50 a month.

I asked Verizon, they said no.  I live in NJ, which is pretty damned dense with people, you would think it was offerred everywhere here, but not where I live.

Not sure if this qualifies as 'big'...  These pictures load so fast I can't tell the difference between 'big' or 'small'...
I only have a 5mp camera, so the pics are limited to a measly 2592 x 1944 in size.

All I have is Dial-Up. The only carrier for broadband in my neck of the woods is Brighthouse. They are owned by Time-Warner which is Anti-Gun and I will NOT contribute to them. I can't afford sattelite yet so thats why

Hey Phil, can you hook a brother up with $42.95 a month?  TIA

Where I live it is only Adelphia (see FRAUD in the dictionary) or dial-up.   I save $396 a year by keeping dialup service.
