I am all for catching pedophiles and when convicted, castrating +life in prison or death penalty.

That said, the segment seems like entrapment, or at least skirting the edge of of entrapment or in a gray area of entrapment.

First- it was done over an anonamous media where most people misrepresent themselves.  It's understood that probably at least 75% of what people say about themselves in blogs/myspace/match.com/dating sites/etc are lies.  How many men have posted as women here for attention?  How many people in chat rooms or on dating sites say they are a 5'6" 115pound gorgeous woman when in fact they are 5'3, 300 pounds and may be a man?

Second- it wasn't a 12 or 13 year old talking to the people that were arrested.  The ones shown looked to be mid 20's to late 30's.

Third: How did the discussions on the internet begin?  Did the suspect message them first, was he the one who started talking of sex, did the person playing at being a 12 year old lead them on or lead them to the discussion, and others.

Fourth: Will they even be put on a sex offendor registry?  They were arrested for "attempted child abuse" or something that was listed as a felony.  Most will be plead down, out of all probability and will involve minimum jail time or probation.

1. It's not entrapment. The pervs contacted them first, of their own volition.

2. They made it pretty obvious it was a 13 year old boy / girl. The pictures posted on their site (why the pervs initiated contact) and they gave their age. Plus other parts of the documented conversation showed they knew / wanted this as well.

3. The actual age of the person 'acting' as the 13 year old girl doesn't matter, the intent / actions of the perv does. Just like you don't ned to have 100 lbs of real cocaine when you're doing a sting for people bying 100lbs of cocaine, and you don't have to go through with a real 'hit' when you're doing an undercover sting of a person that tried to put a hit out on someone else. As long as you can document their intent and action towards a crime, you can prove the crime.

4. The DA said everyone will get some jail or prison time.

Nah, adults are always willing to show up at a stranger's house on a Friday to meet 13 year old boys/girls from the Internet. C'mon now, let's drop this "big brother/entrapment" crap. Those punks were looking to commit heinous crimes on children.

Sorry, Dance.  While you are usually spot on with your posts, you are waaaaaay off on this one.

I'm married so I don't look for women anyway, but if I wasn't, I certainly wouldn't set up a meeting with someone who wasn't of comparable age.  A 13 year-old?  Come on.  Even if the 'girl' contacted the men first, I still wouldn't consider it entrapment.  That is implying that your average man would have sex with a 13 year-old.  Would you buy a pound of cocaine for $200?  Of course not.  While it is an awesome deal, it's illegal and stupid.

Did anyone notice the perverted justice guys had one of the pervs bring pie!???

Here's how the report would go in a pefect world:

Reporter: "let's see, you brought pie, mike's hard lemonade, condoms, lube, and viagra to meet a 13 year old girl who was home alone."

Perv: "Uh, it was a mistake...I was just driving by...uh, I was just going to talk to her..I was trying to teach her a lesson...uhh..."

Reporter: "Well, that sounds like a valid reason. Now if you'll just step into this room where we have 3 fathers waiting with baseball bats, we can get on to the second portion of our 'interview'."

I agree with the arrests, it's the methods that were used to arrive at the arrests I was interested in.  That's what the questions I had were aimed at, as different states have different laws about entrapment.

Let me give an example of what I remember from here in PA (which is fuzzy)-  For soliciting a prostitute charge, if the police are running a sting with police acting as the prostitute the "John" needs to bring up the act and the price.  If the "prostitute" talks to him and says "I will give you a BJ for $20" it would be entrapment.  So the "prostitute" will say something like "What are you interested in?" and the "John" will reply with the sexual act he wants.  Then the "prostitute" will say something like "How much money do you want to spend?".  When the "John" answers he is busted.
