Back when I was a teenager, I was a member of the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps. In the summer of 1991, I was part of a foreign exchange program where I got to spend two weeks at the UK naval base at Portsmouth.
While there, we spent a day kayaking around Whale Island and stopped for lunch on a beach north of the island. From there, I was able to see what appeared to be a WWII vintage submarine, but it was rusty as hell. It was just sitting at a small pier as if it were waiting to be scrapped. Anyway, I never found out what sub it was or why it was there.
So, the other day, I'm looking on Google Earth and notice that Portsmouth, UK is very well detailed, so I zoom in and take a look around. And what do I find just a little north of where the old sub was? Something that appears to be a rusty old WWII vintage submarine. Coordinates are: 50.49'43.80"N by 1.05'32.60"W
