Sig or Glock? - AR15.COM

Not to get too personal but for the forseeable future my gun buying is coming to a halt. Wife's place of employment is selling the business and things could get tight shortly. Right now my only handgun is a Colt 1911 commander. I sold off a few hadguns to fund a newer one. I brought the 1911 last week on a whim, with the idea that I was going to buy a Sig or Glock in a few weeks as my carry weapon. If this is going to be my last purchase for a loooooong while I need to get it right. Which would you choose, Sig 239 or Glock 19? I am about dead even on both. I had a 220 and the reliability is second to none, but I hear great things about Glock, they are lighter and fit my hand really well.

I'd go glock, good capacity, doesnt rust, accurate, and cheap

Glocks are smoother and easier to carry. No sharp hammers or edges to dig into your body. Lighter is a good thing for carry too. I had 5 Sigs, 7 Glocks. I love them both, but currently have zero sigs, with a hammerli inbound.

This would be my recommendation as well. I prefer the Sig for several reasons and some of the reasons are why some prefer the Glock.

In my case, it all boiled down to what fit my hand better and which pointed better for me. The Sig just seemed to always point on target faster and fit my hand better. Being an old fart, I liked the hammer and metal frame as well. I carry a 229 DAK and I love the DAK trigger. It is very smooth. Of the two you mentioned, I would go with the 239 SAS model. I don't particularly care for the two-tone finish of that model, but the melted edges and the wood grips are nice.

this'll probably start a shit-storm, but i personally would sell the 1911 and buy a glock and a sig.

they are both accurate as hell, as reliable as handguns get, larger capacity, etc.

Glock 19. Unless of course you like spending 30 or 40 bucks per mag. And having a gun that doesn't have spare parts and mags widely available.

I know it's the arfcom way but I cannot affford both. Trying to swing a Garand from the CMP too. I figure if I'm not buying for a long time, I want the Garand now.

Same here. I held a Sig at a pawn shop and it just felt horrible.

I prefer Sigs myself, but I think a Glock will last you longer. IIRC, the expected lifespan of a Sig frame is about 40,000-50,000 rounds before it cracks. The Glock frame exceeds that, and the tennifer finish on the Glock is probably better than the nitron (or whatever) on the Sig.

Granted, if you have the cash to buy 40,000 rounds of ammo....you're doin' just fine and have no excuse for not owning both.

The P239 has the worst ergonomics of any Sig, and it is one of the worst of all quality modern pistols. It is also too large and too heavy for the capacity. I would get the GLOCK 19. If you really want a single stack gun with a metal frame, a Kahr K9 would be a better choice.

A Sig 229 would probably be a better choice than the 239. As far as Sig or Glock, it's really your preference. I'm a Sig guy myself, but some people prefer Glock. You should be happy with either one.

I used to have a sig 228, I now own a glock 23. I have to give the edge to the glock for carry. Better finish, resists body sweat better, smoother edges-less to snag clothing or your torso, higher capacity-but thats really negligible, very simple design-you can work on it yourself if you want, consistent trigger pull- first shot same pull as the next.

Whatever you choose, train train train with that weapon if its going to be your carry gun.

Whatever fits your hand the best. I chose a Beretta cause it fits my hand and the sights line up every time. Glock nor Sig do the for me.

Go out and shoot both of them. Im' a bit of a moron and buy guns before I shoot them, so far I've purchased two handguns and my black rifle that way. Since this is going to be your last purchase I'd make sure it counts. I own a 2022 and a 228 and love both of them, but who knows, you might like the 19 better.

Sig though I don't have any experience with the sub-compact only the 229, 226 and 220. If they are any thing like the 239 I say get it, though I don't think you could go wrong either way.

I shot 400 rounds between a Glock 19 and a SIG-229 in a "shoot-off" side by side judgement for several hours this afternoon.

Glock 19- Slightly smaller in all dimensions, but still has a longer sight radius and barrel. Ridiculously simple lines, ideal for concealment without snags. Trigger is typical Glock mush. Much lighter than the Sig though.

Sig 229- Much more comfortable trigger, crisp and easy to take fast followup shots. Better feeling grip. But 1/4" wider and 1/2" taller than the Glock, with a big decocker lever sticking out the left side and a hammer on top. And MUCH heavier.

Both guns ran without a jam, and both equally accurate at 25 yards.
