Do you ever have floaters? You know, those small dark spots in your field of vision that dart away when you try to look at them.
They are annoying but I'm not sure there is much that you can do about them. |
yes i have had them for over twelve years. Many many people have them and accounts can be traced backed as far as acient rome. They are not harmful and for the most part cant be cured thus far.
I've noticed them in the past, usually on bright days. They're annoying for a few minutes, then I stop noticing them.
Get them ocassionally. BTW, my boss had a sudden increase in "floaters" a while back and damned near lost his eye because he delayed seeing the eye doc. He had a torn retina. If you get a sudden increase in floaters you should see a doc.

nope. mine are so heavy they sink to the bottom of the bowl every time
Yes--distracting and annoying. I'm told they are mostly harmless, so I guess it's just another part of the onward march to "old and gross."
+1 to a factor of about 3 to 5. Thank god for Imitrex and prescription ins and epilepsy drugs.... or do you have it that bad? rj |
They are blood cells. Often they are harmless, but if you have a lot, get checked out. In my case, they were from a hemmorhage from a stroke.
I have and usually when I notice them I end up just forgetting about them a minute later.
I notice some sometimes that looked like translucent amoebas or algae or something
I thought i was the only one that saw that! That's exactly what I see... best way to see it is on a bright, blue sky. - BG |

pfffft YOU got off easy!... Mine look like Ernest Borgnine But seriously... Yeah I get them all the time... I should actually say I HAVE them all the time. They are just more noticeable on bright sunny days or overcast days. they are annoying when I obsess over them and I HATE them. Leadnbrass... You got me thinking though if there is a correlation between floaters and migraines. I get migraines but I dont have the headache.. I have the visual auras which sometimes I wig out when a floater lands in the right place... I think I am having a migraine attack. |

does anyone else ever see bright colors and patterns when they jsut shut their eyes? if its really dark, i oten see something along the lines of a night vision green kaleidiscope.

Was just at my eye doctor last week and asked about my floaters. Her response was as long as you don't see a sudden increase or flashes of light with them. Flashes of light indicate the retinal is being torn away from its mounting surface. She said the floaters are comprised of cologen.

I rarely see them but when I do they look more like the silver crap from Terminator 2 when he gets blown apart and how the liquid silver stuff is coming back together again.

I thought ARFCOM had gone down the toilet! I don't have them very often. BigDozer66 |

No, they are not blood cells, they are solid particles of vitreous humor. Vitreous is the jelly like substance that helps your eye keep a round shape. As you age your virtreous starts to liquify. Floaters are pieces of vitreous and other dead occular cells that get stirred up inside your eye when you move around. Unless floaters are accompanied by flashes of light, or you have a very large number of them all of the sudden, they are nothing to worry about. |

blood cells?? Looks like dust to me .... |
I've always told people they were remnants of your hyaloid artery. |

Scar tissue from welding. Doc says he can't do anything for them. They suck.
BIG +1 !!! Been there, done that. No fun AT ALL. Have a doc/specialist take a look. I had NO indication of a detached retina except floaters and discomfort from contact lenses. I ended up with surgery and recuperation that lasted 3-4 months. Get thee to a good doctor. And FWIW ... I sincerely hope that it really is nothing. Stay safe |

+1, I am the exact same way. Thought I was the only one. Now that I'm thinking about them, I just saw one "fly" past the screen as I am posting. |

YES! when I was a little kid I remember closing my eyes and pushing on them to see all the "cool" colors and shapes. Probably wasnt a good idea as now I have contacts |
Yep me too. You need to unwrap the tinfoil a little. It makes them happen a lot less frequent.
I thought I was the only kid that ever did that. It was trippy, man. Trippy. |

I've had them since I was a kid, but mine look like a couple small hairs floating around. Approximately like an eyelash floating 12" from my eye is the best way I can describe it.
I also see colors when I close my eyes, especially if I squint them hard. When I close my eyes normally, and there's any lights on, I see what looks like an entire field of tiny dots. As I look at them about one quarter to one third of them start flowing like a river either left to right or right to left. (Not consistant, but never up and down). I can sometimes see the same thing with my eyes open, if I purposely don't focus on anything and keep very still. It's been like that as long as I can remember. On an almost totally unrelated subject, with various forms of over exertion I get some really cool little starburst flashes in my peripheral vision for a little bit. |

Sweet, I'm not alone! + |

I always thought they were demons.
Thanks for that picture of Pennywise right before bedtime, btw. |
