I don't know why I remember this but one of my earlier memories in life was going to fill up my
Dad's car with him and the price was .42 9/10 per gallon. |
89 cents a gallon back during the summer I was 17. We burned gas just to go back and get more cheap gas.
.45 a gallon, in the mid-70's is the earliest I remember firsthand.
that is the lowest price i remember paying but im just a pup compared to some of you fossils here |
for one week back in 1999 i was able to get gas for .68 a gal. hell $5.00 could almost fill my car up. now its $15.oo for a little more than a 1/4 of a tank..
Seems like it was in the forty cent range in the seventies
it wasn't too hard to come up with enough pocket change to go just about anywhere, and that was with big block V-8s |
No. Probably late 60's, early 70's. I remember 25 cents, and I was being driven to and from swim practice around then and staring out the window of the car. |

I can remember the gas price war between two Stations in Crown Point when I was a kid. One was at .18, the other at .19. Cheapest I ever paid was .41.
19.9 cents a gallon and they checked your air, water and oil level, cleaned your front and back windshields, gave you a bar of soap, a glass and trading stamps.
right around 1972 688 |

In 1961 I remember my mother paying .13 and the guy talking about going across the street and kicking his competitors ass for playing gas war with him.
.32-. 33 a gallon but that was for the minibike. highschool I think if went in the mid to high 80 cent range
.29 cents in late 60's
Octane was something like 101 and petrol was leaded then |
Well for me It was .20.1
That was a off brand station that got their gas for tne bottom of everyones tanks. In my Ford 1969 Falcon with a 200 ci inline 6 the stuff was great in town. hit a hill and the engine pinged like hell. thats when you stopped at the nearest station and got the "high" octane at .22.9 per gal . The damn car got 32 mpg on the cheep stuff. |
I can remember my Dad giving me a quarter to take the gas can down to the station and fill it up.
He might have gave .25 cents but i cant see how that would full er up
Low 30¢/gallon range in the mid-1960s.
I remember 35¢/pack cigarettes. |
I remember that a coke was $.15, gas was about $.23/gal, movies were $3.50, and a new Corvette was $6,000 (which seemed like $48k looks today ).
Dad, before he died, used to tell me that he'd take a quarter out of his savings and see a movie, get a hot dog, and a Coke. On the same quarter! This is perhaps 1943 or so. Ain't inflation a bitch? |
I remember when gas was $.18-.19 a gallon and one corner there was 3 stations and they started a gas war. Paid $.09 a gallon that weekend.
$0.59/gallon
Sometime in the early-mid 80's, I remember seeing a sign when visiting Grandparents. |
34cents early 70's, gas war between 2 station across the street from each other
