Last cigarrette was Dec. 31st, 2004. Never looked back, never felt better, never been in better shape. Just up and up quit, cold turkey. IMHO addiction to smoking is a farce. It's all mental.
I can't believe I purposely breathed in all those lung-eating chemicals for several years. |

I quit mid february of 05. It has been hard, but gets easier with time.
|

quit feb 04 and gained about 65lbs, best health of my life my ass
|
|
quit june of '05, but have been cheating....I suck. been averaging about a smoke a day, sometimes a week or so without them, sometimes 3-4 a day, sometimes a month without.

It helps if you work out. |

9 years this January (after 32 years of smoking), did it cold turkey. I still miss it sometimes but will NEVER go back.

Last one was Jan 04 after nearly 20 years, quit cold turkey and was easier than I thought. Still fighting the extra weight gain too.

December 31, 1990. Ran out of cigarettes and never bought any more.
|

Quit Counter - cool little program |

I had just returned from a hard run when I was in the Army. I was hurtin' for certain. I took one look at the pack of cigarettes I had and tossed them in the trash. That was 1990. I haven't touched another one since.

Congratulations Shadow One. It gets better as time goes on. The money you used to spend on smokes, can now go towards a new firearm and ammo.

+1000000 10 years of that evil filth in my lungs quit for good about 8 years ago i wish i could go back to when i started at age 18 and kick myself in the balls |

better than nothing |

Christmas '03
caught a nasty stomach virus, couldn't didn't want to eat or smoke for a few days...caved in on the eating part. Haven't had a smoke since... |
|
I hear the worst non-smokers are ex-smokers. We gripe a lot more about people smoking than those who never touched the stuff.
|
|
I agree. The smell is kinda putrid to me now. I spend a lot of my free time in Vegas casinos and, while I don't complain openly about it, I make it obvious with physical gestures that I don't want it around me. I'm also always warning my friends about the grim survival stats of lung cancer. As an ex-smoker, I feel my words can caryr more weight. |
|
|
Not looking to start an argument, but I disagree with you on that point. Regardless, congratulations!!
That’s the same month and year I successfully quit (there were lots of earlier unsuccessful attempts). For various health-related reasons, there’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that if I hadn’t stopped I wouldn’t be around now. |

Congrats, keep it up. It only gets easier. |

Over a year here too. I started jogging again last week. Feeling better and better every day. |

Quit for the third and final time Dec 31 2004 havent looked back --first week was rough, couple of patches got me through. Told my wife last week that I felt really good for the first time in as long as I can seem to remember. Getting ready to start back running this year and lose the weight I put on when I quit. In 1996 I ran the Peachtree in 48min flat ,last year I couldnot go up the basement stairs without wheezing. Its nice to breathe agian easilly. 2 side effects I always thought were due to stress and not smoking --migriane headaches --have not had one in about 9 months and for some reason I have stopped snoring/restless sleep like I used to. I have endeavored to NOT become a nazi ex-smoker and it seems to be working out --each smoker out there neeeds to quit when THEY are ready and when they are they will, I think I smoked for a few extra years becuase of the a*****e ex-smokers badgering me all the time. congrats to those of you who have sucessfully made it --think of all the extra ammo and toys you can buy withthat money instead, and for those of you thinking of quitting --you wont regret it.

Quit in January of 1989 after about 10 years of a pack to a pack and half a day.
Quitting is a sure thing if you can follow one simple rule: You can't have the first one. |
|
November 1991. Yep...it was a little miserable for a couple weeks. 27 year habits are hard to break. The one thing I heard that helped me through 'that urge' was "If you don't pick up a cigarette, you won't have to go through the withdrawl again." Then it was $20 a carton. Now it is around $40!

And makes ya say shit like "I can't believe I purposely breathed in all those lung-eating chemicals for several years". Ex Camel driver (4/99) |

Beat you by 1 year. Dec. 31 2003. I used the ptch for a little over 5 months to get over it. |

I'm 6'4" 220lbs not a fat ass and went to the beach for the 4th of july 2004 and with the heat and all ,my legs swelled up ( not the middle one LOL!)at the ankles bad enough I had to sit around all day, freaked me out when I called a friend nurse and they told me it could be a heart condition, always been healthy with no problems till then and then it went away .
Then my Dad quickly died of cancer 6months later which he was also a smoker! Got to see the poor guy go from being a robust ,stout guy, 60 years old, contractor, dwindle to look like a WWII jew in a starve camp, he had to wear diapers at the end. It was time to hang it up! the shit just aint good! Just plain suicide! |

Whoa, good luck man. That's a lot of damage. Better late than never. |
