For the second time in two weeks, American law enforcement officers say men carrying high powered automatic weapons and who appeared to be Mexican soldiers violated the international boundary and crossed into the United States in Hudspeth County, East of El Paso. In the past the Mexican Consulate in El Paso had stated that their Government policy is that no armed Mexican soldiers are allowed closer than three miles to the U.S. border.

The latest incident happened just before sunset on Tuesday night, as a KFOX crew was on the scene. As a Hudspeth County sheriff's deputy was describing what happened during a reported incursion last week - suddenly one 'soldier' emerged from the brush on the Mexican side of the border and darted back under cover. Moments later though, two other men who appeared to be soldiers marched across a clearing, in plan view. Shortly after that, the Deputy spotted soldiers who were well hidden and out of camera range crossing into the United States - attempting to flank the Deputy and the news crew.

According to the Deputy "They are doing the classic thing, flanking around each side of us and actually coming up into the U.S. and trying to figure out what we are doing, they are looking at us very heavily."

Reporter Ben Swann replied, "So I guess it's time to go." The Deputy responded "Yeah, it would definitely be time to get out of here."

Just a week ago a caravan of three vehicles were spotted on I-10 by Hudspeth Deputies and chased to the same area of the border. One vehicle was captured, a second made it across the Rio Grande safely and a third vehicle became stuck in the river. As deputies converged on the scene, they say a Humvee approached from the Mexican side, and heavily armed men in military clothing crossed into the United States to rescue the smugglers. The vehicle was burned on the Mexican side of the river bank.

After this latest incident on Tuesday night, the U.S. Border Patrol reports that they were contacted by Mexican authorities who admitted the men were Mexican soldiers. Border Patrol Assistant Chief Robert Boatright told KFOX "Mexican officials got in touch with our Mexican liaison unit to advise us that they had requested the assistance of the Mexican military and that they were down in Hudspeth County." But he tells us this contact only occurred after the Mexican soldiers had been spotted by the Sheriff's Deputy.

Wednesday afternoon, the Mexican Consulate released a statement saying the heavily armed men were not Mexican Soldiers, but were State Police, investigating last week's smuggling incident. Consulate officials say the men will be in the area for the next several days.

Local law officers say as word of the latest incident spread on Wednesday morning, they were told that Texas Governor Rick Perry was releasing nearly $4 million dollars in additional funding for Operation Linebacker, to assist in their efforts to secure the border. Meanwhile, a delegation of local law enforcement officers will be discussing their concerns with members of Congress and the Department of Homeland Security - first in Houston this week, then in Washington, D.C. next week.

But in the meantime, this latest incident only heightens concern among law officers, and those who live along the U.S. side of the border. The Deputy involved in Tuesday's incident told KFOX, "If it's going to take a bunch of us getting killed down here on the river to show everybody that this is a problem, then its going to happen, one of these days it will happen."

I think we need to station a MLRS down in Tejas, and issue the cops down there a GPS laser-designator and a radio.

Next time a border incursion occurs, they can lase the target, call in the coordinates, and get the hell outta Dodge before the cluster-bombs impact the target zone.

Then they can go and see just who it is that's invading our soil.

Goddamn this is getting frustrating.  When in the hell is someone in the Gov, meaning the Federal Gov, going to stand up and order the border closed tomorrow.  I know the Governors are doing something, which is still not enough, but at least it is something.

Maybe it is time for private citizens to take practice on human shaped moving targets in the area of the incursions, only on our side of the border of course.  Don't want to start an international incident.

EL PASO, TX. - According to law enforcement officials directly involved in the border incursion two weeks ago, the cross-border confrontations are "getting personal."

The confrontation started ten days ago with drug smugglers trying to bring illegal drugs across the border in SUV's east of El Paso. Mexican authorities have now removed the SUV that got stuck in the Rio Grande and was torched by men in military uniforms on January 23rd.

While there are few signs remaining of last week's standoff, matters are anything but calm in Hudspeth County. According to law enforcement officials, things are escalating on the border in Hudspeth County.

During a ride-along Thursday with the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Department, one deputy, who has been with the department since the 1960's, told ABC-7 that this is the most tense matters have ever been along this area of the border.

In the past few days, Hudspeth County Sheriff's Department deputies and their families have received threats to stay off the Rio Grande. Sheriff Arvin West told ABC-7 Thursday morning, before departing for Houston that the Mexican military is behind all of this.

Sheriff West said, "There is no doubt in my mind -- from the first time going back to a couple of years ago and every time in between --- it's the Mexican military. In a nutshell, everybody's been trying to tell everybody that they were here...they've been here ...[and] they come here quite often, regularly."

Now Sheriff West is having to deal with threats being made against his deputies and their families. One Sheriff's Deputy, who refused to appear on camera out of fear, described the situation today in Hudspeth County as "very dangerous." and now, he said, "it's getting personal."

The deputy added that "he is very leery of a firefight erupting on the border just east of El Paso."

It's time for the state governors to call up the militia to defend the borders, with standing orders to shoot on sight any armed Mexican nationals crossing the border. Have the Guard standing by in pre-assigned staging areas to provide rapid reinforcement in case a firefight breaks out and coordinate with aerial recon. Give the Minutemen permission to engage tangos as well and give them all arresting powers identical to those of the Border Patrol so the unarmed illegals can be rounded up and jailed or deported.

Even though I live in Missouri, I've contacted my representatives in the House and Senate and asked that they start turning up the heat on the issue of Secure Borders.  George Bush has been a fucking failure on this topic and is dragging his feet.  Not that my emails will help the matter, but they certainly can't hurt.  This is getting fucking irritating.

Seems a few years back private citizens who owned land/ranches that were being used as crossing areas near the us/mexican border were organizing their own armed patrols to protect their property.

Sheriff insists Mexican military crossed border

A Texas sheriff and his deputy told Congress yesterday they had "no doubt" that Mexican military crossed the U.S. border in Texas on Jan. 23, even as Mexican officials announced they have concluded it was known drug traffickers instead.
   "There's no doubt in my mind there was Mexican military involvement. I've seen it too many times over the years," said Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West, in whose jurisdiction the incursion happened.
   The House Homeland Security Committee's investigations subcommittee is examining the incident and the broader problem of incursions and violence on the U.S.-Mexico border. Two sheriffs and U.S. Border Patrol officials said Mexican military incursions happen, though they viewed them with differing degrees of seriousness.
   On Jan. 23, Sheriff West said, his deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers chased several vehicles suspected(?) of carrying drugs as they fled back toward the Mexico border, and encountered a military-style Humvee on the American side of the Rio Grande.
   After the Humvee and the other vehicles crossed the border into Mexico, one of the vehicles, a Ford Expedition, got caught in the riverbank. Another Humvee and other civilian vehicles arrived, unloaded the Expedition's cargo and then set the vehicle on fire.
   The sheriff and his deputy yesterday played video from a patrol car that was part of the chase.
   Mexican officials yesterday said the preliminary results of an investigation show that "no personnel of the Mexican army participated" in the incident.
   In findings sent to Washington, the officials said the "uniforms, insignia, armament and vehicles that appear on the initial video do not correspond to those utilized by the armed forces of Mexico."
   They said those involved were linked to the Rodolfo Escajeda drug-trafficking organization and that the tape shows Escajeda himself.
   One of Sheriff West's deputies, Esequiel Legarreta, who was part of the chase, testified that the vehicle was a military-style Humvee, the men wore Mexican military-style uniforms with unidentifiable insignias and that they used military tactics.
   Deputy Legarreta, who served six years in the Marine Corps Reserve, said he was familiar with military-style weapons and vehicles and with the Mexican military uniform. He said there is "no doubt in my mind" he saw Mexican military on the U.S. side of the border that day.
   Border Patrol Chief David V. Aguilar and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth Whitaker said the federal government will wait for an investigation by the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement before drawing conclusions.
Chief Aguilar said the number of incursions is decreasing. Asked what help Congress could provide, he said the executive branch is doing enough and he did "not want to leave the impression our borders are besieged."
   Lawmakers were skeptical.
   "It just seems to me it's gotten worse, not better, and the cartels are getting more dangerous," said Rep. Michael McCaul, Texas Republican and chairman of the investigative subcommittee.
   Mr. McCaul said he was dismayed that Border Patrol agents were not involved in the chase.
   He and T.J. Bonner, a 27-year Border Patrol veteran and president of the 10,000-member National Border Patrol Council, said they have been told agents were instructed to back off from this chase.
   Mr. McCaul said that placing sheriffs rather than Border Patrol agents on the front lines could affect funding decisions in Washington.
   Mr. Bonner suggested stationing the U.S. military as a reserve force to be used if the Mexican military crosses the border.
   "If there's an incursion, let the chips fall where they may. Let them do what they were trained to do," he said.

Hmm, neighboring foreign military invading U.S. soil? Sounds like WAR to me. Of course, OUR government will downplay the shit out of this. One Mexican official admits they are Mexican military. Another official says they are State Police. Neither official has bothered to explain why armed men representing the Mexican government are intruding into the U.S.

The latest wave of border security spending has some people glad and others feeling the efforts are misdirected.

Hector Flores, LULAC's national president, believes the border standoff in Hudspeth County last month between local law enforcement officers and drug smugglers was blown out of proportion.(the one with the mexican military or imitation mexican military facing down US LEOs with .50s)

"We all believe in complying with the law, but we don't believe that immigrants who are only seeking jobs are criminals," Flores said.

Thursday, Gov. Rick Perry announced "Operation Rio Grande," on the heels of his previous pledge to support Operation Linebacker, an enforcement program created of the Border Sheriffs' Coalition. Perry has allocated $590,500 to El Paso border security initiatives.

Operation Rio Grande will be coordinated out of Austin.
 
El Paso County Sheriff Leo Samaniego was on his way back from Washington, D.C., Friday and could not be reached. Sheriff Arvin West of Hudspeth County could not be reached.

Doug Mosier, spokesman of the Border Patrol, said the federal government has primary responsibility for securing the border.

But the new state program "can ultimately enhance Customs and Border Protection's commitment to gain greater operational control of the border," Mosier said.

The Senate is expected to take up immigration issues at the end of March.
