My Dad is the officer in the back row, right end. He was the aircraft commander, and this was his crew.
Covering convoys and hunting u-boats in the Atlantic.

That's the dangly thingy (don't know the english term) that hangs from the sword, that just happens to look the same color in the BW photo as his gloves.  It is in fact gold thread, and his gloves are brown.

Our thumbs are quite normal.
