A good friend of mine recently found out that her health insurance won't cover a good portion of the procedures she needs to have (tests run, etc).  Her employer can't or won't change her selection since open enrollment has closed.

Can she get supplemental coverage from a different source?  (She makes too much to get Medicare/Medicaid, whichever it is.)  If so, can anyone recommend any alternatives?

Thanks,

Michael

Her employer can't change coverage mid year unless they cancel the health insurance and enroll with another company.  Not a good option...trust me.

Your friend should look at getting AFLAC or a similar company such as Colonial, Allstate Employee Benefits etc.  There is no risk for the employer as the benefits are supplemental and are 100% employee paid.   That is her best option.

She's checking Aflac.  Any other recommendations?

IS Aflac our only choice here?

Too late, those will qualify as procedures needed for a pre-existing condition.  If you go AFLAC or anyone else, they will be denied on those grounds.
