I was just wondering how many people here actually hit garage sales. I can never get myself to stop at one when I pass by it, then later wondering if I missed out on something.

i have found valuable antiques and some guns...I ask for guns or knives and the best deal was a .32 colt made in 1923 or so and it didn't have a magazine...the guy says, Oh it doesn't shoot because there is no mag...I said how much and he said, $25.00...I went home and ordered a $28. dollar mag and was set...

i usually slow down and look at the type of stuff out front.  if it looks like mostly clothes, old dishes, and boxes of readers digest, i just drive by.  if i see some camping, fishing, outdoor type stuff or tools i'll stop and check it out.  sometimes you can find really good deals.  sometimes the people want new prices for old crap.

I stop at as many as I can get away with

This past summer yielded RCBS carbide dies in 44mag & 9mm for $10ea.  At another I bought 7mag,300mag & 270 Lee dies for $5ea.  In the past I've bought shotguns & several .22s.  Best deal all of last year was a Dewalt power hand planer for $20. It was used once, on one door for about 2 inches.  It got away from the guy & we was afraid of it after that.  It got away from him because he had it set FAR too deep.

Plenty of BOB/camping/survival needs can be met by buying used items at garage sale.

Haven't driveway shopped  for a couple of years.
The last one I stopped at did yield an excellant deal.

A new, unfired Marlin 336 smooth stock in 30-30 with a Micro Groove barrel. The old fart even had the original manual and the original box of Remington ammo he bought for it.
I found a faded receipt in the back of the manual, unfortunatly the only readable part was the part of the shop name and date, the rest is faded out.

He was the original owner, and bought in new in..................1956!

$100.00 and he insisted on cash.

I've still got it and the box of ammo...
Still unfired and in 100% condition.

If I see old rusty machinery (other than the usual baby clothes and similar crap) I stop. I have picked up loads of useful tools, usually of a better quality that available anywhere new today, and piles of militaria, too. I always grab Coleman lanterns if I see them,too-No matter what, with a little fiddling, they are going to work.  By now I really don't need any more tools, but if someone is selling Crescent wrenches for $1 each,I'm buyin'...

I tend to find good stuff at the ones on farms or in country.  I found a marlin model 60 for $20 at one.

I always ask the lady if she's got any "porn or guns".

Nope.  I have a phobia about buying other peoples junk.  Besides, I have enough junk.

Same with flea-markets.

When I need something big and have the time.  I got my couch, my table & chairs, desks, and bookcases at garage sales.  I actually got a coffee table that was so nice, my mom stole it and gave me her old one.  (and yes, my mom has high standards)

I stop at every one I see.Last month I picked up a DIAS for $20,the guy said it was legal to have. He even signed a bill of sale to prove it and make it all legal and stuff ! I was stoked to say the least.

I stop occaisionally, you never know what you can find.

Usually I turn up nothing but junk but about 15 years ago I scored a genuine '63 Fender Telecaster neck for $20

Around the same time I also found two smallblock Ford 4 barrel intakes for $5ea

If you've got some time to kill, some good deals can be found at estate auctions.

Only rarely ... I seldom carry more than a few bucks in cash, and very few garage sales take Mastercard or Visa.

YES!!  Sometimes our Saturday AM or Sunday AM is planned to hit garage sales and then go to breakfast.  Some deals are incredible.  Likewise I have put on a few of them and have practically given some really good stuff away.  Lots of times you end up with nothing, but sometimes you find some unbeatable deals.

My latest best deal was some nice Bose speakers that are over $100 each for $10.  Rock on!!

I stop about 50% of the time.  I would stop more often if life wasn't so busy.

I got a full size kegerater for $50 last summer. Beer tap, CO2 bottle, regulator, and all the hoses included.

That was a steal.
